Full Job Description

King George V School is looking for a Laboratory Technician II who can assist teachers in preparing and delivering practical science lessons plus managing the resources, equipment and safety in the laboratory.  Appointment level and salary will be based upon qualifications and experience.
 
Responsibilities

Lesson Preparation and In class support

  • Support teachers in Science related activities, preparing resources and lessons.
  • Help students and teachers during lessons; demonstrate experiments to students
  • Help in development of practical resources for students’ project work
  • Interact with children & teachers, providing advice and practical guidance
  • Prepare practicals, working closely with teaching team

Maintain Health & Safety standards in the laboratory / classroom

  • Support Teaching and Tech Team in setting up major health & safety rules in the laboratory
  • Carry out First Aid role
  • Manage the disposal of chemicals properly
  • Provide risk assessment guidance for lessons 
  • Liaise with and supervise janitors to keep areas clean and safe

Procurement & equipment maintenance

  • Purchase and keep stores of apparatus, equipment and other inventory e.g. textbooks 
  • Order and track equipment; keep purchase orders and manage procurement
  • Liaise and co-operate with other lab techs for purchase of day-to-day materials
  • Carry out annual stocktaking and fixed assets check
  • Maintain an organised and effective supply system 

ICT

  • Work with ICT team and where possible as learning technology support for teachers
  • ICT competence e.g. data logging, results display and compiling spreadsheet records, google docs etc
  • Work with ICT team to ensure whiteboard, projector, learning resources etc are in working order

Requirements

  • Diploma in Laboratory Technology from polytechnic / polytechnic university, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or equivalent; and
  • Grade D/Level 2 or above in Science, Chinese Language and English Language (Syllabus B) in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education (HKCEE), or equivalent
  • Lab tech. certificate or equivalents (including health & safety)
  • First-Aid certificate
  • With subject specialty and Science knowledge. 
  • Have a competent level of understanding of processes involved in practical work.
  • Ensure smooth running or practical activities Initiative, organizing & planning etc
  • Higher level communication skills, in English.
