Full Job Description

King George V School is an international secondary school with approximately 1,800 students that operates in English.  The role assists teachers and technicians in preparing and delivering practical science lessons plus looking after the resources, equipment and safety in the laboratory.  Appointment level and salary will be based on qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning Support

  • Support teachers in Science related activities, preparing resources and lessons 
  • Help students and teachers during lessons by providing resources and any ad hoc needs
  • Monitor and operate the Science Helpdesk/ Helpline, answering enquiry and providing instant support as requested
  • Interact with children & teachers, providing advice and practical guidance
  • Prepare and test practicals to ensure the reliability of equipment provided

Maintain Health & Safety Standards in the Laboratory

  • Carry out First Aid role
  • Manage the disposal of chemicals and other consumables properly
  • Liaise with the janitorial team to keep areas clean and safe
  • Provide risk assessment guidance for lessons 

Procurement & equipment maintenance

  • Keep stores of apparatus, equipment and other inventory
  • Purchase of day-to-day materials (e.g. fresh materials from the wet market)
  • Carry out annual stocktaking and fixed assets check
  • Cleaning and disinfecting equipment

ICT

  • ICT competence e.g. data logging, results display and compiling spreadsheet records

Requirements 

  • Grade D/Level 2 or above in Science in Hong Kong Certificate of Education (HKCEE) or Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) or equivalent
  • Laboratory Technician Certificate or equivalent as an advantage
  • First-Aid Certificate
  • Degree or Diploma in any Science Subject as an advantage
  • Interest and enthusiasm in Science
  • Good time management
  • Team-player
  • Basic computer skills
