Quantitative Developer – Systematic Data Infrastructure

Location: Shanghai / Hong Kong

Our client is a fast-growing proprietary trading firm developing systematic strategies across global markets. As part of its expansion, the firm is seeking a talented Quantitative Developer (Data Focus) to join the core infrastructure team and help scale the data systems that underpin its research and trading operations.

Role Overview

This is a critical opportunity for an experienced developer to build robust, scalable data services for a high-performance quantitative trading environment. The successful candidate will work closely with researchers and engineers to design unified data pipelines and ensure the accuracy, reliability, and efficiency of real-time and historical market data.

Key Responsibilities

• Normalize, maintain, and unify market data (tick/OHLC) across multiple sources, ensuring consistency between historical archives and real-time feeds
• Define and implement data processing standards, build shared APIs and frameworks to support strategy teams with common data needs
• Develop backtesting and data validation tools, improve storage formats (e.g., columnar), and optimize data services for performance and latency
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to maintain high data quality and streamline research workflows

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
• 3+ years of experience in data engineering roles at quantitative trading firms or global data providers (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv)
• Proficient in Python/R and C++ for data infrastructure and tooling
• Strong familiarity with data analysis libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy) and a foundation in statistical methods

Responsibilities

• Work with a team of professional specialists to design and implement data and analytics infrastructure solutions (data platform, business data layers) for HK Data Chapter, supporting strategic priorities across consumer banking, private banking, and institutional banking
• Support the governance, improvement and enhancement of data models on analytics platforms, ensuring data quality, integrity, and the availability of reusable assets
• Uncover new sources of structured and unstructured data through stakeholder engagement as well as new technology initiatives. Bring them into the architecture using sustainable methodologies
• Support platform migration and upgrade projects to ensure the minimal business disruption
• Monitor and troubleshoot issues within the CI/CD pipelines, ensure security and compliance standards are met within the CI/CD processes
• Assist in Flux job preparation for historical data copy and providing guidance on data profiling and access to the production environment
• Be a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in data ana analytics tools to support the increasing demands from business and other analytics/data science teams
• Collaborate with technology team and Data Chapter team to improve deployment processes
  
  

• Degree or above in computer science, data science, engineering, mathematics, statistics, or related disciplines, with a minimum of 5 years of working experience in data platform, data engineering and architectural design
• Proficiency in PySpark, SQL, and data modeling with experience in data visualization (e.g., Qlik/Tableau/PowerBI, etc.) and familiarity with cloud data services, data architecture concepts and code optimization
• Strong understanding of data and analytics in complex business environments; financial services experience preferred

• Develop and maintain storage and data backup infrastructure policy, standards and procedures of AI supercomputing systems to align with industry standards, frameworks and good practices.
• Collaborate with storage and data backup infrastructure suppliers to optimise AI frameworks and their operational environment and libraries to maximise performance and effectiveness for adopting the AI supercomputing systems.

Requirements

• 10+ year proven experience as storage and data backup infrastructure specialist, preferably in AI supercomputing environment.
• Experience in AI supercomputing storage and data backup infrastructure design and implementation.
• Experience in designing and optimising AI supercomputing infrastructure and systems for business, scientific, research, or data-intensive applications.
• Experience in adopting hardware acceleration technologies such as GPU and NPU.
• Understanding of performance analysis and optimization techniques for parallel computing, including profiling, tracing, and performance counters.
• Familiarity with industry-standard storage interconnect, fabrics design and their impact on performance of AI supercomputing systems.
• Knowledge of parallel programming models and frameworks and their application to AI supercomputing workloads.

Key Responsibilities

• Report to Head of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
• Design and build the best-in-class technical infrastructure for delivering AI supercomputing systems according to the required technical architecture, performance, resilience, security, energy efficiency and service levels.
• Configure, operate and maintain the storage and data backup infrastructure of the AI supercomputing systems.
• Develop and maintain storage and data backup infrastructure policy, standards and procedures of AI supercomputing systems to align with industry standards, frameworks and good practices.
• Collaborate with storage and data backup infrastructure suppliers to optimise AI frameworks and their operational environment and libraries to maximise performance and effectiveness for adopting the AI supercomputing systems.
• Manage technical infrastructure outsourcing services and their contractual agreements, implement effective measures to improve effectiveness,compliance and quality of the service delivery, manage the relationship with the outsourcing partners.
• Define storage and data backup infrastructure technical requirements and interconnect capabilities to optimise for the operations and performance of AI supercomputing systems.
• Conduct performance analysis, benchmarking and modeling to identify performance bottlenecks, optimise system parameters and guide the technical infrastructure enhancements.
• Evaluate emerging AI supercomputing technologies, including GPU processor, network fabrics, storage and interconnects for the continuous advancement of AI supercomputing systems based on technical requirements, performance characteristics and cost considerations.
• Collaborate with subject domain experts to understand the specific requirements of scientific research and data-intensive workloads for using the AI supercomputing systems and propose appropriate technical infrastructure enhancements to manage the workloads.
• Provide necessary support to conduct risk assessment, evaluate infrastructure control effectiveness and mitigate associated risks.
• Monitor and analyse technical infrastructure events and alerts; identify and respond to infrastructure related risks, incidents and breaches.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI supercomputing hardware, software and industry trends to guide future infrastructure design and technology adoption.
• Provide appropriate technical guidance, training and support for effective use of the AI supercomputing systems.
• Prepare management information, key matrices and reports for continuous improvement.

Requirements

• 10+ year proven experience as storage and data backup infrastructure specialist, preferably in AI supercomputing environment.
• Experience in AI supercomputing storage and data backup infrastructure design and implementation.
• Experience in designing and optimising AI supercomputing infrastructure and systems for business, scientific, research, or data-intensive applications.
• Experience in adopting hardware acceleration technologies such as GPU and NPU.
• Understanding of performance analysis and optimization techniques for parallel computing, including profiling, tracing, and performance counters.
• Familiarity with industry-standard storage interconnect, fabrics design and their impact on performance of AI supercomputing systems.
• Knowledge of parallel programming models and frameworks and their application to AI supercomputing workloads.
• Experience with AI supercomputing software stack components, such as compilers, runtime systems, job schedulers, and development libraries.
• Experience in using deep learning framework such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffee.
• Understanding of programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, R and CUDA for building and implementing AI systems.
• Good problem-solving abilities and the ability to analyse and address complex performance and scalability challenges.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and rapidly evolving technological landscape.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and subject domain experts.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English and Chinese.
• Passion with AI technical architecture, infrastructure and systems.

We are seeking a strong Storage Engineer in Hong Kong to join and support our client's team . This person will be working as member of APAC IT storage to manage storage related projects and provide level 3 operational support in APAC.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Management

• Support projects in APAC regions that are managed by APAC storage team
• Maintain configuration standards and design guidelines for storage systems, management systems and required software.
• Provide technical assistance to deployment teams.
• Maintain, adhere, and improve the standard operating procedures followed in the bank.
• Perform storage resource allocations and migrations when required complying the process.

Business relationships

• Communicate with APS, business, and other ITP teams during different project stages.

Governance

• Support storage vulnerability, baseline checking and storage hardening
• Produce health-check/dashboard/security compliance report as required

Essential Technical Knowledge/Skills :

• Minimum 5 years of system support experience on enterprise storage platform.
• Experience in EMC PMAX/VMAX, ECS, Pure Storage, NetApp, Brocade SAN switches, and CleverSafe.
• Strong knowledge of storage management, including volume/file system management, data migration, snapshots, and replication.
• Experience in storage upgrades and hands-on with code upgrades.
• Project management experience will be a plus

Specific Qualifications preferred

• SAN management at intermediate to advanced level
• NAS management at intermediate to advanced level
• Object storage management at intermediate to advanced level
• ITIL foundation for service management

More details about the role

• This position focuses on storage-related tasks, including hardening and vulnerability management, with some operational duties.
• It is a hybrid role, with the responsibilities divided as follows: 50% on storage baseline verification and hardening, 30% on managing vulnerabilities, and 20% on operational tasks.
• The typical work hours are from 9 AM to 6 PM HKT, though there may be occasional weekend work for system upgrades, which will be compensated with time off.
• Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years' experience in storage, particularly with NetApp and EMC technologies.
