Job Summary
As a Senior Construction Underwriter, North Asia in the SCOR Business Solutions (SBS) team ,you will be part of the regional construction team, to underwrite corporate construction business in the Asia-Pacific Region, with the following focus:
- Develop and manage business with placement brokers in North Asia
- Advocate SCOR's value propositions and build & maintain SCOR reputation in the Construction Market by regular Insured clients' meetings and active involvement in Risk Engineering
- Adheres SCOR underwriting guidelines and respective ICS control
Key duties and responsibilities
Under the direct authority of the APAC construction manager and the strong support of the Global Head of Construction and in coordination with the commercial managers, risk engineers and other lines of business, you will be involved in the following activities:
Underwriting activities
- Produce new business from the APAC region in Contractors All Risks (CAR) and EAR (Erection All Risks) policies on a Single Project or Annual basis form, insurance and reinsurance.
- Underwrite, build and maintain a profitable portfolio in accordance with the SBS underwriting guidelines, Roadmaps and more specific ad 'hoc guidance.
- Underwrite in a technical manner to assess risks in order to determine their insurability and apply appropriate terms and conditions.
- Contribute to the development and quality of the portfolio in accordance with the underwriting policy and the direction being selected by the Global Line of business.
- Give added value to the Global Construction teams on specific technical and/or language skills
- Correctly service the In-force portfolio paying particular attention to profitability.
- Responsibly manage data recorded in our information systems to give an accurate representation of the risks subscribed and to allow portfolio analysis.
- Populate and maintain the Underwriting platform and supervise the administration of the OMEGA back-office tool (in liaison with the Technical Assistants) in relation to new or existing accounts
- Regularly interact with our claims team to inform the underwriting process.
Contract Management
- Comply with internal risk management and compliance, ensure data quality and reporting to all our IT systems, Forewriter, Omega, UP, Saleforce.
- Ensure proper management of contracts (endorsements, renewals, claims…) and proper control of the accuracy of data keyed into the IT system;
- Maintain compliance, profitability and sustainability as key drivers for decision making
Segment and Client Management
- Contribute to the commercial activity for the Region, with a specific focus on North Asia brokers.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients and their intermediaries (brokers, ceding companies) with a specific focus on lead placements and long term clients.
- Visit regularly our clients and project sites (approx. 10-20 days of business travel per year)
- Promote SCOR to our customers by using the communication and marketing products (seminars, forums, materials etc).
- Identify new business targets in order to develop a profitable profile for Scor Business Solutions.
- Work in close cooperation and coordination with your colleagues in the SBS network where appropriate for sharing of business objectives to produce the best response to your producers and for the division.
- Adopt a solution-oriented customer centric view, in building on cross selling with other lines of business or with P&C treaty for facultative services
Global Construction Team
- Participate to broader Global construction initiatives and projects.
Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
- Established underwriter with at least 10 years of construction underwriting experience in the North Asia region
- Proven underwriting skills including technical expertise and wording negotiation
- Good market relationships
- Experience of writing international business
- Reinsurance and Insurance knowledge
- Industry background in the construction industry would be appreciated, Civil engineering or mechanical engineering, or construction contract management.
- Sound technical knowledge of subjects associated to underwriting as well as a wider understanding of related legal, risk management, social and economic topics
- Ability to successfully negotiate "face-to-face" with brokers
- Ability to lead business
- Ability to promote the underwriting policy
- Understanding of company computer systems
- Active engagement and contribution to the global construction team is essential
- Team player as well as an enquiring mindset with the ability to work independently as a motivated and pro-active self-starter
- Self-disciplined, principled and decisive decision making
- Organised and able to prioritise under pressure
- Ability to evaluate, condense and summarise key information
- Confidence to develop and maintain a network of brokers and clients
- Excellent communication and presentation skills and confident to represent SBS at conferences, meetings or professional associations

- Understand clients' needs and provide professional project management services.
- Oversee the work of contractors and sub-contractors.
- Ensure project progress aligns with deadlines.
- Tertiary educated in Engineering / Building Services or equivalent.
- 3+ years work experience in E&M engineering or related fields.
- Experience in E&M, fitting out works, interior design, plumbing and drainage systems, swimming pool projects, building services, spa, or hotel construction projects.
- Knowledge in plumbing systems or electrical control systems is an advantage.
- Experience with swimming pool, water feature projects, hotel projects, or similar projects is a significant plus.

Why Your Role Matters
A Lecturer (Level B) is expected to make significant contributions in both teaching and research, with the latter evidenced through an upward trajectory of scholarly journal publications and early career research grant success. In particular, we welcome applications from scholars and educators with expertise in the smart and sustainable construction fields.
The role reports to the Discipline Director of Construction Management and Property and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities Summary
- Demonstrate and continuously develop a well-defined teaching philosophy that inspires student learning in construction management and property
- Conduct classes (on-line, on-campus and dual-mode), assess student learning achievements and support students in postgraduate and undergraduate courses in line with UNSW policy.
- Design and develop learning activities and resources and provide assessment and feedback using a range of suitable approaches and learning environments.
- Initiate the development of experimental approaches to teaching and learning with the support of more senior academics.
- Support learning progression with students as individuals (through such activities as one-to-one consultation and thesis supervision) and as a cohort (through general course related advice) to achieve positive learning and high employability outcomes for students.
- Manage course administration as Course Authority, including academic quality assurance.
- Maintain professional development in pedagogy, disciplinary knowledge and minimum professional accreditation requirements (where relevant).
- Engage in individual and/or collaborative research in a manner consistent with disciplinary practice.
- Create scholarly impact which is recognised by peers in the advancement of disciplinary knowledge.
- Conduct research/scholarly activities under limited supervision, either independently or as a member of a team (as per the norms of the discipline) and design research projects.
- Contribute to the development of applications for competitive funding under the guidance of senior colleagues, including participating as co-investigator or chief investigator in competitive grant applications.
- Mentor and guide students and colleagues and develop the next generation of academics through involvement in supervision of HDRs (as per the norms of the discipline)
- A PhD in Construction Management or a closely related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments in Construction Management, with a particular focus on smart and sustainable construction
- Demonstrated experience in teaching and learning design, development and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level in Construction Management
- Experience using and/or designing with educational technologies and online / dual-mode delivery methods.
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence (e.g. relevant discipline based curriculum design and development at a variety of levels and scales).
- Demonstrated knowledge of the construction management industry or experience of work-integrated learning
- Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
- Demonstrated track record in research with outcomes and publications of high quality and high impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence as well as the capacity for research leadership.
- A track record of significant involvement with the construction management profession, industry and/or community organisations
- High level communication skills and ability to network effectively and interact with a diverse range of students and staff.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships.

Job Responsibilities:
- Assist the Senior Construction Manager in planning and executing fit-out construction and renovation projects, supported by an Assistant if applicable.
- Plan and coordinate construction activities.
- Help establish budgets and schedules for construction projects.
- Work with the team to ensure procurement plans are in place and POs/sub-contract agreements are issued timely.
- Collaborate with the Senior Construction Project Manager, design teams, and consultants to ensure design output meets the brief, is on time, and of suitable standard.
- Assist in preparing and reviewing change orders for contractors and subcontractors.
- Assist in scheduling and facilitating project meetings.
- Monitor and control expenses within the budget.
- Recommend cost reduction initiatives while maintaining quality and productivity.
- Manage invoicing and payment processing.
- Analyze construction problems and develop resolutions.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries and concerns.
- Generate progress reports for management and clients.
- Identify delays and adjust schedules to meet deadlines.
- Identify milestones and problem areas, recommending preventive actions.
- Work with the Senior Construction Project Manager to develop and manage project plans, quality assurance, and health & safety plans.
- Prepare and communicate method statements and risk assessments when necessary.
- Keep superiors informed of project progress and issues affecting schedule, budget, or status.
- Provide administrative support to the Senior Construction Project Manager.
- Participate in training and development of team members in procedures and practices.
- Demonstrate proficiency in all required project technology.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures, including ethics and business practices.
- Proactively meet client and project requirements in a timely and cost-effective manner.
Qualifications:
- Certificate or Diploma in Building Construction Management or higher preferred.
- 4-6 years of experience in commercial space construction, preferably office fit-out.
- Technical skills including hosting site meetings, project documentation, monitoring progress, and preparing budgets.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all project stakeholders.
