About the RoleAs a (Senior) Racing Veterinary Surgeon / (Senior) Racing Stable Veterinarian , you will:
- Provide comprehensive veterinary care for racehorses during training and racing events.

- Assess the veterinary suitability of horses for participation, ensuring compliance with Club health and safety regulations.
- Communicate effectively with trainers, owners, and racing officials regarding horse health and welfare.
- Collaborate with the veterinary team to develop and implement care protocols.
- Maintain accurate medical records and documentation for all treated horses.
Veterinary Surgeons will focus on surgical services, while Stable Veterinarians will focus on clinical services, but both are responsible for the full lifecycle of horse care.
About YouYou should have:
- A veterinary degree registered with the Hong Kong Veterinary Surgeons Board.
- Significant experience in racetrack veterinary practice.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach.
- Integrity and professionalism.
- Fluency in English; Mandarin and/or Cantonese is an advantage but not essential.
Level of appointment will depend on qualifications and experience.

Day-to-day Duties
- Provide professional and up to date quality care to veterinary patients.
- Assist veterinarians with consultations, provide nursing care to hospitalized patients and assist in surgery and dental procedures.
- Assist with performing X-rays and assisting with Ultrasound.
- Perform routine in-house laboratory procedures.
- Communicate and liaise professionally with clients, both in supervised and unsupervised situations.
- High School Diploma with minimum of 2 years of veterinary nursing experience
- Basic understanding of common medical disease terminology.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal communication skills in English and Cantonese. Including the ability to demonstrate high level of client education and communication.
- More experience is required to qualify for a Senior Veterinary Nurse position
- Full time: 5 work week, 9.5 -10 hours per day with 1-hour lunch break, with public holidays entitlement
- Part time: 4 days work week, 9.5 -10 hours per day with 1-hour lunch break / Negotiable

Overview
The Hong Kong Jockey Club is looking for an experienced Regulatory Veterinarian to fulfill the duties described below. The job holder reports to the Head of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy and, in performing their duties, regularly closely interacts with a wide range of people within the Club's Racing Division, as well as with external stakeholders, both nationally and internationally, such as government veterinary authorities, horse racing and affiliated organizations and professional associations.
Responsibilities- Report to the Head of Veterinary Regulation, Welfare and Biosecurity Policy and, in performing their duties, regularly closely interacts with a wide range of people within the Club's Racing Division, as well as with external stakeholders, both nationally and internationally, such as government veterinary authorities, horse racing and affiliated organizations and professional associations.
- Communicate effectively, and build positive relationships with stakeholders across the Club allowing for an effective and collaborative workplace
- Lead by example; hold yourself to the highest standards of integrity and principles
- Coach and mentor colleagues within the team and teams we partner with
- Manage the administration of the independent assessment of horses' suitability to race and train and to ensure the well-being and welfare of horses in Hong Kong and, where necessary, those exported by the Club
- Liaise and collaborate with the Club's Racing Control Department in developing, implementing and managing the Rules and Instructions of Racing pertaining to veterinary matters
- Liaise and collaborate with the Club's Racing Laboratory over matters pertaining to the control of prohibited substances in racehorses
- Liaise with Hong Kong Government and overseas veterinary and horse racing authorities/organizations, over matters pertaining to the import and export of horses, disease control, and related matters.
- Officiate at horseracing meetings and barrier trials at Hong Kong and Conghua racecourses.
- Work professionally within the provisions of the HKSAR Veterinary Surgeons Registration Ordinance
- Develop, set, monitor and regularly review the implementation of equine health programs and quarantine regulations, for all equines in Hong Kong. Participate in the development and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to ensure a healthy, disease free, equine population within Hong Kong and the Equine Disease Free Zone in China.
- Act as an expert witness at inquiries or appeals for Racing Control and supply expert advice on other veterinary and horse welfare matters.
- Advise and assist with the Club's racehorse retirement program including monitoring and assessing the Club's horses donated to local and overseas establishments to ensure the safeguarding of retired racehorses welfare.
- Undertake any other duties as and when assigned by management.

- A bachelor's degree, or equivalent qualification, in veterinary science as accepted for registration by the Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong. A higher degree, or qualification, in an equine related veterinary subject is desirable, though not essential, depending upon previous experience
- A minimum of 7 years equine veterinary experience, including racehorse clinical practice, with a substantial component of veterinary regulatory work, management and administrative experience.
- Leadership experience is preferred
