Our client is a leading consumer goods manufacturer with established manufacturing operation in the region. They are now inviting an experienced purchasing professional to join their team.
As the Deputy Head of Purchasing, you will be leading a team and overseeing the purchasing function of the organization. You will manage supplier relationships, optimize procurement processes, and ensure the timely and cost-effective sourcing of components and materials. You’ll play a key role in driving the global supply chain strategies, maintaining supply chain resilience and supporting product innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Head of Purchasing to develop and implement global sourcing strategies that align with corporate goals and market dynamics.
- Lead strategic supplier negotiations, contract management, and long-term partnership development.
- Oversee procurement operations, ensuring cost efficiency, quality, and timely delivery of materials and components.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across procurement processes, systems, and supplier performance.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with R&D, production, quality, and finance teams to support new product development and operational planning.
- Analyze global market trends, risks, and opportunities to inform sourcing decisions and mitigate supply chain disruptions.
- Mentor and develop procurement team members, fostering a high-performance, collaborative culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field;
- Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in purchasing management and strategic sourcing, with at least 10 years in a supervisory or managerial role within a manufacturing or electronics environment.
- Demonstrated success in managing global sourcing strategies, supplier negotiations, and cost optimization programs.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and procurement analytics tools; experience with digital procurement platforms is a plus.
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strategic mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Regular traveling is required.
- Proficient in English and Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) is required.

- Shortlist and summarize potential vendors for each product/service based on agreed criteria; e.g.; company size, years in operation, reputation/references.
- Negotiate prices and recommend vendors and service providers based on agreed scoring criteria
- Create and maintain approved preferred supplier lists
- Build standard product lists to help streamline the purchasing process
- Facilitate the ease of purchasing for internal customers

Customer Service and Enquiries :
- Collaborate with colleagues to facilitate the ease of purchasing for internal customers (e.g.; understanding customers’ needs & expectations, delivery timeline, quality, technical specifications)
- Respond to questions and requests and liaise with colleagues to ensure the purchasing decision meets expectations and aligns with internal policies & guidelines.
- Provide updates to customers as required; e.g., information on vendors, pricing, delivery timeline.
- Follow up with vendors and/or service providers as necessary.
- Evaluate preferred vendor and service provider lists regularly to assess their performance and pricing including seeking feedback from customers.
- Troubleshoot with vendors and/or service providers when delivery of goods or services do not meet specifications including quality.
- Negotiate contracts/service agreements in collaboration with the Business Office.
Purchase Requests and Purchase Orders :
- Assist where necessary in processing PRs and POs to ensure the smooth operation of the purchasing team.
- Follow up on outstanding POs to ensure they are completed and/or closed on a timely basis.
- Maintain and update the procurement system data

- Undertake other duties and functions as required that will impact and strengthen the contributions of the department and overall operations of the school.

Education:

Experience:

- Experience researching, evaluating and liaising with vendors
Required Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written English and Cantonese
