CENTRE FOR ADVANCES IN RELIABILITY AND SAFETY LIMITED
Centre for Advances in Reliability and Safety Limited (CAiRS), initiated by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, is established in 2020 with its operation located in the Hong Kong Science Park, New Territories, Hong Kong. The mission of CAiRS is to link up academic and industrial counterparts to introduce and implement new artificial intelligence methods and deep learning techniques with reliability modelling, with the goal of improving the products reliability and systems safety of critical components and devices, products, systems and sub-systems designed, commissioned and/or manufactured by Hong Kong companies and enterprises.
Research Scientist (Ref. No.: CAiRS-RS/P1.1-3)
(Appointment period: each for twenty-four months initially, with possibility of further appointment)
The appointees will report to the Programme Manager and assist in planning and monitoring one or two of the research projects - "Informative feature discovery and selection", "Early detection of degradation in electronic interconnects" and "Anomaly detection for systems under indeterminate operating conditions" in the areas of electrical reliability and safety, machine learning, and computer vision. They will be required to:
1) develop objectives and design projects and proposals;
2) coordinate and monitor research projects;
3) formulate and implement appropriate methodologies for research projects;
4) conduct experiments, perform data analysis, and evaluate test and research results;
5) supervise project team members;
6) compose research findings for publications, grants, and other documents;
7) assist in grant and manuscript submissions; and
8) perform any other duties as assigned by the Centre Director or his delegate
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
a master's degree or above in Science, Engineering or a relevant discipline;
at least two years of research-related experience in the fields of electrical reliability/safety, machine learning and computer vision;
knowledge and understanding of related research methodologies; and
experience in research publications and grant applications.

Responsibilities
The appointees will be expected to assist in various research projects on AI for Healthcare. Topics include automatic generation of medical reports, patient motion analysis, and treatment effect estimation. The exact project to work on depends on the appointee's experience. 
Requirements
Applicants for the Postdoctoral post should have a PhD degree in areas of artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision or other related disciplines, and must have no more than three years of post-qualification experience at the time of application. 
Applicants for the Research Assistant post should have an honors degree or above in one of the aforementioned or other related disciplines.
Applicants are expected to have experience in developing machine learning algoirithms in PyTorch/TensorFlow. Prior experience in working on EHR data, medical images, computer vision, video analytics and/or casual inference is a plus.
The successful applicant will be offered a one-year appointment. Re-appointment thereafter will be subject to performance review, mutual agreement, and funding availability.

 - implementing, evaluating and deploying NLP-based scoring systems for real-world clinical notes for the lupus disease;
 - prompting and training large language models (LLMs) through supervised fine-tuning or reinforcement learning techniques;
 - preparing project plans, IRB applications, and supporting documentations;
 - coordinating team communication, organizing meetings, and recruiting and managing annotators; and
