Duties and Responsibilities
The Guidance Counselor will work under the direct supervision of the department head and be responsible for planning and delivering a comprehensive developmental guidance and counselling program. The following duties and responsibilities are typical but not exhaustive: Guidance and Counselling
- Develop school-wide guidance curriculum
- Plan and deliver individual and group guidance / counselling
- Provide reasonable emergency support outside of school hours
- Collaborate with Senior Leaders and teachers in planning, implementing, promoting and evaluating the program
- Employ/Refer appropriate assessment and screening tools
- Consult with staff and parents in planning appropriate services for students
- Provide professional advice to students and parents and professional development where needed
- Assist students and their families in receiving appropriate assistance from other programs and services within and outside of the school
Education and Training
- Bachelor of Social Work or Counselling / Guidance Counselling
- Master's degree in social work or school guidance strongly preferred with experience in a school setting working with students
- Registered social worker, licensed school counsellor, or certified International School Counselor
- Dedicated experience or practicum experience in school guidance and counselling
- A working knowledge of counseling theories and approaches for working with children
- Knowledgeable about multi-disciplinary teams in schools
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff members
- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Chinese preferred
- Competency in written and spoken English required
- Remain current in research and development of guidance and counsellingpractices
