Applications are invited for appointment as AI Engineering Specialist (Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) and Artificial Intelligence) (Ref.: H01/2025/063)
We are seeking an expert to play a pivotal role in our medical engineering efforts. You will drive and shape the development of groundbreaking Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) products and leverage the power of artificial intelligence to revolutionize diagnostics, treatment, and patient care.
What You'll Do

• Lead the design and development of AI/ML algorithm
• Focus on electrophysiology and brain-computer interface (BCI) data analysis and algorithms
• Apply your expertise in machine learning (especially deep learning) to develop, train, validate, and optimize algorithms for a variety of medical applications.
• Architect and develop SaMD products, with a focus on US FDA product registration (510(k), De Novo, PMA) and fulfilling international standards (e.g., ISO 13485, IEC 62304)
• Employ software engineering best practices and adhere to relevant software development cycle standards
• Guide architectural decisions, technology choices, and development methodologies
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, clinical, regulatory) to ensure alignment
  

What Is Required

• Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, Information Engineering, or a related field with a strong emphasis on software development and AI/ML.
• Proven experiences in BCI related data analysis and algorithms
• Proven experience in handling brain-related electrophysiological signals such as ECoG, neural spikes or EEG as a plus
• 6+ years of experience in software development for medical applications, with 3+ years focused on SaMD and a proven track record of developing and deploying AI/ML algorithms in a regulated environment.
• Expert-level proficiency in machine learning, particularly deep learning, with hands-on experience using frameworks and tools, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, etc.
• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, R, and Java.
• Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their services relevant to SaMD.
• In-depth understanding of the medical device development lifecycle and relevant regulations (FDA or EU MDR).
• Experience with SaMD development, verification, validation, and regulatory approval.
• Knowledge of QMS principles and ISO 13485.
  

Work mode

• Full-time / part-time, details can be negotiated
• Located in Hong Kong, or the Silicon Valley area in California in US

• Support the development of different data science initiatives, including deep learning models and statistically advanced model scripts, to support data science and analytics initiatives on AI.
• Support the development of LLM-related projects, eg, Knowledge Bot, Document Understanding, etc.
• Support C360 Datamart enhancement and maintenance.
• Monitor and enhance the performance and effectiveness of existing models in production.
• Manage BI solution development and implementation for various MI reporting using Power BI.
• Deliver insights from the data visualization process from a customer-centric approach.
• Work on Data Science projects with different stakeholders to expand the data science discipline into the business application spectrum.
  
  

Responsibilities

Qualifications

• Graduate or advanced degree qualification in related subjects, e.g., Data Science, Statistics, Maths, etc.
• 3-5 years of relevant working experience in the data analytics field as a statistician/analyst/data scientist.
• Have experience with Azure and Databricks, which will be a plus.
• Have hands-on experience in RAG design and implementation.
• Have hands-on experience with deep learning frameworks like Tensorflow, PyTorch.
• Good knowledge of the model development process like data cleansing, feature engineering, model training, and validation, and have a good understanding of the algorithms behind.
• Familiar with data science libraries like Pandas, Spark, Numpy, Scikit-learn, etc.
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL.
• Have experience in web programming, which will be a plus.
• Previous exposure to/knowledge of the instance industry will be an asset.
• Proactive and with a can-do attitude.
• Good command of English, Cantonese/Mandarin.
• Candidate with less experience will be considered with a junior position

Job Description

As a Data Science & Analytics Consultant, you will work on local and international client engagements, focusing on data acquisition, exploration, modeling, and presenting results to stakeholders.

You will also contribute to internal data science projects on Heka, our internal accelerator for data science initiatives: . As part of the global data science team, you will help develop solutions tailored to client needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify, acquire, process, and explore relevant data sources.
• Analyze large structured and unstructured datasets to discover trends and patterns.
• Use data analytics and machine learning to derive insights, build models, and algorithms.
• Communicate findings through presentations, dashboards, datasets, and automation tools.
• Propose solutions and strategies for business challenges.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams.
• Contribute to a range of deliverables including models, algorithms, datasets, and tools.
• Promote data science practices through training, upskilling, and business development.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years' experience as a Data Scientist or Data Analyst, preferably in consulting.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, Economics, or related fields from a top university.
• Proficiency in Python and ideally another analytical language like R or SQL.
• Strong problem-solving skills and business acumen.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Fluency in English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin).
• Preferred: experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, PowerBI).
• Preferred: understanding of statistical techniques and machine learning.
