Faculty of Social Sciences
The Faculty of Social Sciences is committed to nurturing graduates who possess a social science perspective, communication skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities, cultural sensitivity, global vision, and commitment to lifelong learning. With more than 40 years of experience in social sciences and in particular social work education, the Faculty offers a range of programmes designed to develop both generic competencies and specialist knowledge, preparing students for further study and professional practice. Currently, the Faculty provides a bachelor's degree and a higher diploma in Social Work, two associate degree programmes in Social Sciences and Applied Psychology and several Diploma of Applied Education (DAE) elective clusters.
Duties
Apart from teaching, the appointee will serve as Acting Dean for the Faculty of Social Sciences, providing leadership in managing existing programmes and developing new programmes across various QF levels. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing academic leadership in strategic planning, curriculum oversight and programme development.
- Ensuring academic quality and regulatory compliance with the institutional policies of the College, the University of Wollongong ("UOW"), all relevant HKSAR regulatory bodies, Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications and relevant professional bodies. (e.g. Social Workers Registration Board (SWRB))
- Leading accreditation and re-accreditation exercises for all programmes under the faculty to ensure academic quality and industry relevance.
- Managing the Faculty's resources and budget efficiently to achieve academic and operational goals.
- Formulating and implementing strategic initiatives to enhance student recruitment and contribute to the College's financial sustainability through modest revenue-generating activities.
- Fostering collaboration with colleagues from other faculties, UOW global campuses, and external partners to strengthen academic and research synergies.
- Managing and supporting academic staff to ensure high standards of teaching, learning and professional development.
- Promoting quality teaching and engaging learning experiences for students.
Building connections with students, alumni, employers, industries and professional bodies to enhance the Faculty's reputation and graduate employability.
Conducting research to publish or securing external grants to promote a culture of scholarly excellence within the Faculty.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the College.
Requirements
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
Possess a Doctoral degree in Social Sciences or a closely related discipline;
Have a minimum of five years' experience in full-time teaching and programme management in tertiary education. Possession of academic leadership experience within a self-financing institution would be advantageous;
Demonstrate a proven track record of research activities;
Preferably a registered social worker with the SWRB.

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will normally be made on fixed-term contract for two years. Fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental schemes.
