Audio-Visual Technician

The Role

• Verify equipment specifications align with project installation requirements
• Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to ensure all project specifications are met
• Liaise with customer IT teams or suppliers to coordinate network setup, access, permissions, and configurations
• Communicate system functionality requirements to control system programmers
• Configure video, audio, control, and network devices for optimal performance
• Test system racks prior to shipping, identifying and resolving faults
• Commission equipment on-site to the highest standards, including programming audio DSPs, tuning audio systems, and setting up digital video and video conferencing systems
• Participate in customer acceptance testing as required
• Troubleshoot system issues related to design and manufacturing
• Provide technical training to clients during project handover
• Complete as-built drawings and support handover documentation

The Profile

• Strong technical knowledge of AV and VC equipment from leading industry brands
• Current understanding of AV market trends and products
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
• Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects
• Proficiency in writing DSP code (e.g., QSC, Biamp) and maintaining high standards in DSP tuning
• Experience with system configuration for major AV brands
• Expertise in configuring and troubleshooting advanced AV solutions, particularly AV over IP
• Ability to commission and troubleshoot control systems; programming skills are a plus
• Solid understanding of IT and network principles
• Candidates with less experience to the above, will also be considered for a Junior Technician role

Position Summary

• You will lead our local engineering, programming, and CAD teams.
• This role is a strategic leadership position focused on team development, operational excellence, and technical oversight across AV integration projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and lead a responsive engineering team for programming and CAD inquiries
• Develop a culture of accountability and performance management
• Mentor engineering team members to support professional growth

Ideal Candidates

• Minimum 10 years of AV experience, with 4 years in engineering management preferred
• Experience managing multiple million-dollar integration projects is a plus
• Ability to read electronic schematics and architectural blueprints preferred
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project
• Strong mentoring and team development capabilities
• Understanding of AV system design and installation
• Ability to lead large, cross-functional project teams
• Familiarity with construction project management in AV context
• Proficiency with test and calibration equipment preferred

Role Introduction

The Engineer - AV Sound will be one of the key people responsible for the operations of the AV Systems at the Sports Park Venues. These include, AV IP network, PA Networks, In-stadium video distribution system network, electronic way finding system network, IPTV and many others. This position is operationally responsible for setting up AV sound equipment like microphones, speakers, audio control systems as well as networking devices and connections at Kai Tak Sports Park to the highest possible standard. This position will collaborate with various venue departments like marketing, operations, IT, security, facilities, etc. to execute events and improve venue experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Design, set up, and operate sound systems for various events, ensuring optimal sound quality and coverage.

Collaborate with event organizers, performers, and other technical staff to understand and meet their audio requirements.

Conduct sound checks and make necessary adjustments to ensure the best possible sound quality during events.

Monitor and maintain sound levels during events to ensure compliance with venue regulations and prevent noise disturbances.

Troubleshoot and resolve any sound-related issues that may arise during events.

Maintain, repair, and upgrade sound equipment as needed to ensure it remains in excellent working condition.

Stay up-to-date with the latest sound technology and techniques, and make recommendations for system improvements.

Assist with the setup and breakdown of sound equipment before and after events.

Maintain accurate documentation of sound system setups, equipment inventories, and maintenance records.

Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and best practices related to sound equipment and its operation.

Partner with broadcast teams and media partners to enable AV solutions for live productions, interviews, and content distribution.

Coordinate with promoters, entertainment teams, and production crews to provide AV tech and live event operational support.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Sound Engineering, Audio Technology, or a related field.

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Sound Engineer, preferably in a live event setting.

Extensive knowledge of sound systems, audio equipment, and sound mixing techniques.

Proficiency in using Dante, Cobranet and other relevant software.

Excellent ear for sound and ability to make quick, precise adjustments during live events.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work well under pressure.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of stakeholders.

Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by event schedules.

Physical ability to lift and move heavy sound equipment.

A keen interest in the sports venue industry and innovation in the technical kit, actively seeking information and sharing internally with the team.
