Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Lead the end-to-end mechanical design and development of new products, ensuring they meet all functional, cost, quality, and timeline objectives.
- Define and manage detailed product design specifications, technical risk assessments, and validation plans.
- Champion DFM/DFA and value engineering initiatives to optimize product cost, quality, and manufacturability without compromising design intent.
- Oversee the creation and release of all engineering documentation, including 3D models, drawings, and BOMs.
- Collaborate with external design firms, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to ensure design feasibility and seamless production launch.
- Manage the team's workload, conduct performance reviews, identify skill gaps, and facilitate targeted training and professional development programs.
Requirements:
- Education & Experience 
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field. 
- Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in product design and development, preferably in consumer durables, home appliances, or a related high-volume manufacturing industry.
- Demonstrated successin managing the end-to-end product development lifecycle for multiple complex projects, launching them on time, within budget, and to specification.
2. Technical Skills & Expertise (Must-Have)
- Product Development Lifecycle: Mastery of stage-gate NPD/NPI processes from concept to mass production and sustaining engineering.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX), strong skills in tolerance analysis (GD&T), FEA, and rapid prototyping.
- Design for Excellence: Proven expertise in DFM/DFA for injection molding and other high-volume processes.
- Quality & Validation: Deep experience with prototyping, validation testing, root cause analysis, and FMEA.
- Regulatory Standards: In-depth knowledge of global safety and performance standards (UL, IEC, CE, CSA) and environmental regulations (RoHS, REACH, WEEE).
- Tooling & Manufacturing: Hands-on experience collaborating with tooling shops and suppliers on mold design, material selection, and process optimization.

What this job involves:
The Electrical Engineering Design Manager is responsible for leading the electrical design function across assigned projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with codes and standards, and alignment with client and business objectives. This role oversees consultants and contractors, manages design deliverables from concept through construction, and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including architecture, mechanical, sustainability, and project management. 
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical leadership, proven project delivery experience while driving innovation and efficiency in electrical systems design.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Liaise with client groups to ascertain project requirements and formulate proposals for delivery of the same.
- Advise on the proper implementation of client's design process through the feasibility, scheme design, detailed design, construction and handover phases of designated projects.
- Review and approve design calculations, drawings, specifications, and BIM models for technical accuracy and completeness.
- To assist in planning appropriate levels of design management resources.
- Advise on the project brief and manage the approval process in conjunction with the Project Manager through the client approval process.
- Notify and liaise with the APAC Head of Projects & Head of Engineering and any other Senior Management and interface with regarding any escalated project issues.
- Notify the project team where design issues may impact upon overall cost management of a project.
- Manage the appropriate documentation and sign offs take place at strategic times during the project. Delivering full auditing capability of all aspects of the design management process.
- Provide consultative support as required to other business groups within client's organization on any engineering requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and engineering standards, including adoption of digital engineering and automation technologies.
- Review and technically analyse relevant new product innovations.
- Regular liaison with the global engineering team advising on a series of global initiatives including the benchmarking of projects and design process.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical engineering design for building systems. At least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role is preferred.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and large-scale commercial or institutional projects.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical distribution systems, lighting design, codes and standards, and construction documentation.
- Proficiency with design and analysis software and BIM workflows.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience with sustainable design, LEED, Fitwel, or similar certification processes is a plus.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites or client offices as needed.
