- Possess strong communication, analytical and research skills
- A proactive team player, with can-do attitude and able to work independently under high pressure and tight timeframe
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to details, mature attitude and ability of multi-tasking
- Excellent command of spoken and written English and Chinese. Ability to speak in Putonghua will be an advantage

The incumbent will report to the Group Legal Counsel and will assist in drafting and managing legal documentation and help ensure the company, and its group companies, operate according to the highest ethical, legal, and compliance standards. About The Role
We are looking for a dedicated and junior legal professional to join the Law Department as a Legal Counsel.
The successful candidate will support the senior members of the legal team to serve as a trusted legal advisor and subject matter expert supporting various business units by adopting a customer-centric approach, while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, regulatory guidelines and company policies.
The candidate will ideally have legal experience spanning multiple practice areas such as corporate, commercial, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), insurance products, litigation, employment, information technology (IT), artificial intelligence (AI), regulatory advisory, data privacy and protection. Prior in-house experience, particularly with exposure to the insurance-related matters and/or regulatory communications, is preferred.
This role offers the opportunity to gain diverse and hands-on experience on multiple legal practice areas in a fast-paced, dynamic and collaborative environment, as well as to contribute to driving meaningful change, shaping strategies and supporting key business initiatives across the organization.
Roles And Responsibilities:
Legal Advisory and Support
- Conduct groundwork support and research and provide customer-centric and commercially sound legal advice on various business areas, including product development and actuarial treaties, operations, marketing, distribution, litigation and complaints, employment, data privacy and protection, IT and AI and outsourcing.
- Review and draft contracts and other related documents, including policy contracts / product brochures, marketing agreements / materials, distribution agreements, employment agreements, various product / service procurement agreements and internal documents.
- Provide pragmatic legal analysis and solution on day-to-day operational matters, ensuring adherence to legal, regulatory and/or contractual obligations.
- Support strategic projects and initiatives (including participation in relevant committees/taskforces/working groups) to ensure legal and regulatory compliance, mitigate risks, and enhance operational efficiency.
- Provide legal support in communications and engagement with regulators including the Insurance Authority, the Securities and Futures Commission, the Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority, and the Monetary Authority of Macao.
- Provide guidance to internal teams on legal and regulatory risks and requirements, ensuring alignment with applicable laws, regulations, codes of conduct, guidelines and internal policies.
- Provide support in managing disputes and litigations, including working with external legal counsel where necessary.
- Assist internal teams in handling policyholder claims, coverage disputes, and customer complaints to mitigate associated legal and regulatory risks.
Perform such other duties and tasks as may be assigned the Manager or other senior members of the team.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- A solicitor or barrister qualified to practice in Hong Kong with a minimum of 3 years’ post-qualification experience.
- Legal experience (including advisory and support, drafting and review) in multiple practice areas such as corporate, commercial, M&A, insurance products, litigation, employment, IT, AI, regulatory advisory, data privacy and protection. Insurance law experience is a preferred but not a pre-requisite.
- Experience as an in-house legal counsel in a business environment, particularly within the insurance industry, is a plus.
- Self-driven and sense of ownership, accountability and integrity, with the ability to work independently while thriving in a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent judgment, strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability and business acumen to provide solid, clear and solution-oriented legal advice.
- Logical thinker with a proactive and problem-solving mindset and diligent and detail-oriented contributor, who is willing to learn and ready to support team members in achieving collective team goals.
- Ability to handle multiple and conflicting priorities efficiently.

Overview:
We are seeking a motivated Legal Counsel with 4-5 years of relevant experience (or 2-3 years post-qualification experience) to join our legal team. The incumbent will apply an analytical approach to enhance organisational efficiency in legal matters, focusing on real estate, general corporate, and financing transactions. Value Added Partner
- Provide legal advice in the early stages of business management’s strategy development and key decisions, and help to ensure proper implementation of those plans, consistent with legal and regulatory objectives.

Reporting to Mandarin Oriental’s Group Counsel (based in Hong Kong) you will work alongside other lawyers in the Legal Department, currently based in Hong Kong, London and Geneva. The Legal Counsel is responsible for managing all legal issues related to Mandarin Oriental’s business and entities worldwide, including providing legal advice, drafting and negotiating major contractual documentation, handling litigation and disputes, and providing legal support to Mandarin Oriental’s corporate offices, hotels, exceptional homes and branded residences.
Your primary focus is on supporting Mandarin Oriental’s business and development activities relating to hotel and residence projects. You will work closely with other corporate departments to advance Mandarin Oriental’s long-term business objectives while protecting its legal rights and interests.
YOU ARE an exceptional lawyer around 3-7 years PQE . Hospitality industry experience, particularly in hotel or residences management agreements, will be a strong preference for consideration.
YOU WILL help Mandarin Oriental achieve its ambitious growth goals by supporting Development in negotiating and documenting new hotel management and residences branding agreements while assisting your colleagues in all parts of the business to achieve the exceptional, every day, everywhere.
EXPECTATIONS
This is an international role offering interesting work across a diverse range of cultures and jurisdictions. Mandarin Oriental executives with differing levels of seniority, commercial acumen and languages will have direct access to you and rely upon your judgement and advice. You need to be very intelligent, articulate, and hard-working, with initiative and independence. You will be expected to take important decisions under conditions of stress, and justify and be accountable for those decisions. Your level of communication will be expected to be the best in the company. You will have to manage outside legal providers and hold them to account for their advice and fees, especially law firm partners. You will be expected to have excellent drafting and negotiation skills, and will have plenty of opportunity to exercise them. You will give presentations and provide training, both in person and on-line. You will help to develop policies and procedures to empower your colleagues and enable the Legal Department to apply its resources efficiently. You will be the conscience of the company and a defender of its commitment to compliance, ethics and sustainability, but you will have to do so with persuasion rather than fiat. You will be expected to provide business solutions to legal issues, and your role and responsibilities will grow based on trust and performance. You will be always a responsible representative of the company and its values.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Law degree, and current admission in a common law jurisdiction
At least three years PQE
Considerable experience with hospitality work, preferably hotel management agreements
Faultless fluency in legal-level English, both written and spoken (fluency in other languages an advantage)
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
Excellent negotiating and drafting skills
Ability to work independently while interacting with and advising all levels of the organization
Ability to interact in a dynamic, international environment that is leanly-staffed
Capacity to adapt to different cultures around the world
