Full-time/Part-time Certificated Dental Surgery Assistant I/II/Dental Clinic Assistant (at the rank of Facilities Assistant) (several posts) in the Institute for Advanced Dentistry Multi-Specialty Clinic (IAD-MSC) of the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis or one-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability)

As part of HKU's Faculty of Dentistry, ranked among the top three by the QS World University Rankings by Subject for nine out of the past eleven years , IAD-MSC is a centre of excellence for the management of complex and severe oral conditions.  The institute provides postgraduate dental education, fosters clinical innovation, and offers continuing dental and professional education for practicing dentists and specialists.

IAD-MSC is situated in Hong Kong Island at a 20,000 ft² state-of-the-art facility.  Equipped with 45 dental chairs and paired with the latest technologies, students from eight different dental disciplines can receive education and training in advanced dentistry and interact with real patients.

For appointment as Certificated Dental Surgery Assistant I/II, applicants should have a Certificate of Proficiency in Dental Surgery Assisting issued by a recognised institute or equivalent, AND 5 passes in HKCEE, or min. Level 2 or equivalent in 5 subjects in HKDSEE, with at least 5 year's chairside assisting work experience in a dental clinic.  Those with less experience may be appointed as Certificated Dental Surgery Assistant II.  The appointees will assist the operators in the treatment of patients and teaching-related matters; facilitate patient care, administration, supplies, general cleanliness associated with clinics, and front desk patient care assisting functions; and perform other duties as assigned.

For appointment as Dental Clinic Assistant (at the rank of Facilities Assistant), applicants should have 5 passes in HKCEE, OR min. Level 2 or equivalent in 5 subjects in HKDSEE, with at least 1 year's work experience in a dental clinic including chairside assisting.  The appointees will assist the operators in the treatment of patients and teaching-related matters; facilitate patient care, administration, supplies and general cleanliness associated with clinics; and perform other duties as assigned.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits, if applicable.  The appointments on fixed-term basis will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary.

About the role

What you'll be doing

1. Assisting the dentist during dental procedures by passing instruments, holding suction devices, and maintaining a clean and organised work area
2. Sterilising and disinfecting dental instruments and equipment according to strict protocols
3. Preparing treatment rooms by stocking supplies and ensuring all necessary materials are available
4. Providing excellent customer service by greeting patients, scheduling appointments, and handling patient inquiries
5. Maintaining accurate patient records and updating treatment plans in the practice management software
6. Supporting the dental team with any other administrative or clinical tasks as required
