Who we are
Sparkmate is forging the future of steelmaking with fully electrified, autonomous factories — from raw ore to steel. We're developing the world's first fully electrified pathway to transform iron ore into finished steel products, and eliminating fossil fuels from primary ironmaking. If you're a builder who loves turning hard tech into reality, you'll feel at home here.
About the role
We're hiring an Embedded Software Engineer with strong hands-on skills at the intersection of software and hardware. You'll develop the control systems and software backbone of Sparkmate's electrochemical and manufacturing processes — from embedded firmware to cloud dashboards — helping us scale the world's first green steel factories.
What you'll do
- Design, implement, and test embedded software for microcontrollers and single-board computers (e.g., Raspberry Pi, Arduino).
- Build control and monitoring systems for electrochemical cells, furnaces, and factory equipment.
- Write efficient code in C++ and Python for device-level automation, instrumentation, and data collection.
- Develop full-stack applications , JavaScript, GCP) to connect embedded systems with cloud services, dashboards, and APIs.
- Integrate sensors, actuators, and electronics for robust system operation.
- Collaborate with electronics, mechanical, and process engineers to ensure seamless hardware/software integration.
- Maintain documentation and implement best practices for version control, testing, and deployment.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electronics, Robotics, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in embedded systems, firmware development, or IoT.
- Strong coding ability in C++ and Python; familiarity with embedded Linux and Raspberry Pi environments.
- Experience with full-stack tools , JavaScript, cloud platforms like GCP).
- Solid understanding of electronics (sensors, boards, communication protocols).
- A builder's mindset: ownership, hands-on execution, and problem-solving.
- Familiarity with mechanical tools like CAD is a plus but not required.
- Strong project management and cross-disciplinary communication skills.
- English is mandatory, Cantonese & Mandarin are a bonus.
It's okay if you don't tick every box — if you're a fast learner and builder, we want to meet you.
Why join us
- Build real hardware. Flat, fast, maker culture.
- Work on industry-changing, pioneering innovation at global scale.
- Join international top-level engineers (electronics, mechanics, process, chemistry).
- Live in vibrant Hong Kong. Stunning city and natural landscapes.
- Take ownership. High autonomy, big responsibilities.
- Enjoy daily team meals, healthcare, 25+ holidays/year.
- Salary: HKD 35,000–45,000/month (experience-based).
