About Alvarez & Marsal

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is a global consulting firm with over 10,000 entrepreneurial, action and results-oriented professionals in over 40 countries. We take a hands-on approach to solving our clients' problems and assisting them in reaching their potential. Our culture celebrates independent thinkers and doers who positively impact our clients and shape our industry. The collaborative environment and engaging work—guided by A&M's core values of Integrity, Quality, Objectivity, Fun, Personal Reward, and Inclusive Diversity—are why our people love working at A&M.

The team:

Within A&M, the Financial Services Industry Group partners with Financial Services organizations and private investors to drive results, create value and unlock business opportunities at every stage of their growth strategies. Through deals, disruption, and distress solutions, we join forces with clients to catalyze growth and profitability, navigate the complex industry challenges, and harness rapid technological changes that drive market advantage.

We provide end-to-end portfolio and M&A services; deliver innovation, revenue growth and efficiency through business transformation; and execute rapid solutions to improve or turn around businesses. Clients can expect bottom line results through action-oriented leadership and success-aligned fee arrangements, delivered by our team of transformation experts, industry operators, and digital leaders.

You are:

As part of our vision for a differentiated Financial Services proposition, we are seeking an Engineering Lead to build and lead a team of leading class software engineers and technology professionals. The scope of work will include but is not limited to developing internal tools using proprietary data sets and AI to enable accelerated service delivery and to co-ideate and co-develop client facing solutions in conjunction with domain experts. The role entails a balance of strategic, commercial thinking and hands-on execution — comfortable operating at both the code level and the leadership level.

To achieve this, you will architect and oversee the design, build, and implementation of solutions including internal tools and client facing builds. You will be leading voice of the team in driving adoption of industry standard engineering practices including building reusable, scalable, secure, and resilient systems that meet the needs of regulated clients. You will also be responsible for growing and developing your team including hiring, training, and facilitating a cohesive and productive environment across co-located team members and offshore teams.

The work:

  • Technical Leadership
    • Lead relationships with internal users and our clients to define priorities and deliver purpose-built solutions
    • Own the architectural vision for your solutions, while managing day to day delivery of business value
    • Lead in adopting best-in-class engineering practices including coding standards, security practices, and architectural principles
  • Team Development
    • Develop a resource plan and oversee the hiring and training of the team
    • Drive cross team collaboration including both on-shore and off-shore resources
  • Infrastructure and Service Management
    • Oversee the design and configuration of cloud infrastructure (Azure) and relevant services e.g., ACI, Blob, etc
    • Collaborate with development teams to configure and manage the development pipeline and associated tooling e.g., CI/CD, Build/Deploy Tools, Testing, Monitoring, Infrastructure Automation, Code Repositories, etc
    • Manage and optimize ongoing testing and release schedules that adhere to both internal security and risk standards as well as client standards
  • Technical Product Management
    • Collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to ideate, design, and develop point solutions while leveraging existing solutions (internal and commercial) and monitoring technical debt
    • Provide an environment which enables teams to ideate and rapidly prototype solutions to evaluate for commercial and technical viability
Here is what you need:

  • Proven experience leading engineering teams in a high-growth environment.
  • Strong proficiency in writing, reviewing, and delivering production-grade code and experience in mentoring teams to produce high quality code.
  • Extensive expertise in software architecture, system design patterns, and modern engineering methodologies
  • Experience in selecting and recommending a technology stack with the ability to articulate the architectural vision and business value of the said selection
  • Experience in navigating security and compliance aspects of deploying technology into a regulated environment
  • Deep understanding of modern engineering best practices, system architecture, and software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Experience working cross-functionally with product, design, and executive teams to drive outcomes.
  • Outstanding problem-solving acumen leveraging strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills; proven ability to derive insights from large volumes of unstructured information to solve complex, ambiguous problems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly.
  • Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience

Other differentiating qualifications:

  • Strong understanding of banking technology ecosystems, including APIs, big data, infrastructure, and developer operations.
  • Understanding of software architecture and component-level design, including technical requirements, software design, and technical solution development.
  • Familiarity with fintech trends, industry regulations, and emerging technologies in AI and machine learning.
  • Hands-on expertise with Terraform, Kubernetes, and containerization tools.
  • Strong knowledge of CI/CD automation (Jenkins, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Spinnaker)
  • Experience writing synthetic tests for critical platform integrations (GitHub, Artifactory, K8s)
  • Experience working with Gen AI and GenAI architecture including open source technology stacks, MCP, vibe coding, vector databases (e.g., Pinecone, Llama Index), and LLMs.
  • Experience working with Chinese technology vendors (e.g., AliCloud, Deepseek, Qwen, etc)
  • Fluency in Cantonese or Mandarin.
