Job Description
As General Manager, you will be responsible for the overall leadership and strategic direction of the company. You will act as the licensed Responsible Officer under the Insurance Authority, ensuring full compliance with regulatory standards. Your role includes overseeing financial planning, driving business development, and maintaining operational excellence. You will represent the company in dealings with regulators, auditors, and key stakeholders, while fostering a high-performance culture within the team.
The Successful Applicant
The ideal candidate will hold a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or a related field, along with a recognized insurance qualification such as ACII or ANZIIF. You should have at least 20 years of experience in the insurance industry, including 5 years in a senior leadership role within a brokerage firm. Eligibility to be approved as a Responsible Officer by the Hong Kong Insurance Authority is essential. A strong track record in business development, deep knowledge of compliance standards, and fluency in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin are also required.

DOO you have what it takes?
What you’ll be working on:
- Act as the primary point of contact with the insurance regulatory authority.
- Ensure the firm and its staff adhere to the Insurance Ordinance, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Data Privacy, and other relevant regulations.
- Maintain the firm’s licensing conditions and submit required reports (e.g., financials, compliance audits).
- Implement and review internal policies, procedures, and controls to mitigate regulatory risks.
- Supervise the conduct of licensed insurance brokers/agents to ensure compliance with codes of conduct.
- Monitor sales practices, policy recommendations, and disclosures to prevent mis-selling or conflicts of interest.
- Approve and oversee high-risk transactions (e.g., complex products, large policies).
- Advise senior management on regulatory implications of new products, markets, or partnerships.
- Ensure marketing materials and client communications comply with regulations.
What we’re looking for:
- Holds a valid Responsible Officer license from the local regulatory authority
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business, or Insurance-related field.
- Minimum 8 years in insurance brokerage/underwriting, with 2+ years in a compliance or supervisory role.
- IIQE Paper I, II, III, IV, V licenses are a MUST.
- Excellent command of both Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese) and English.
- Deep understanding of the Insurance Ordinance, AML/CFT, GDPR/PDPA, and fiduciary duties.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Experience liaising with regulators and auditors.
- Familiarity with insurance products (e.g., general insurance, life, reinsurance).

Retail Distribution – Wealth Sales Distribution
Hang Seng's Retail Distribution focuses on personal wealth management and financial services. Our one-stop wealth management initiatives are designed for both our affluent and mass integrated account customers. With around 254 branches and automated banking centres, including around 50 Prestige Banking Centres for our high-end personal customers, we serve over half of the adult population in Hong Kong while offering an extensive range of products to our valued customers.

We are currently seeking high-caliber professionals to join our department as Senior Insurance Sales .
Principal Responsibilities
- Achieve the insurance sales targets by collaboration with the assigned Customer Relationship Managers/branches
- Drive tactical programs to develop a robust insurance culture on need-based financial planning to affluent segments
- Ensure sales staff are capable to cross-sell various types of insurance products and able to deliver innovative products to our customers
- Implement the Group’s/Bank’s Compliance policy by managing compliance risk, ensuring adequate compliance resources are in place and training is provided, fostering a compliance culture and optimizing relation with regulators
Requirements
- University degree in a related discipline and preferably with relevant qualifications such as CFA, CFP or CFMP
- Proven experience in insurance sales
- Good communication, interpersonal and analytical skills
- Strong self-motivation and drive to succeed, with ability to work under pressure
- Proficiency in English, Cantonese and Putonghua
- Customer-centric mindset and ability to manage complex interactions effectively
- Shown strong situation awareness, strong desire to learn and ability to work in Agile environment
- Advocate of openness, able to create a cohesive teamwork and inspire others
- High level of customer-centricity mindset with dedication to deliver exceptional quality services for customers
- Professional qualifications such as Enhanced Competency Framework (ECF) and/or Certified Banker (CB) under HKIB would be an advantage
