As an Executive Director leading part of our insurance practice, you will be expected to drive the growth agenda within the insurance domain. This looks like building our profile and network across clients and engagements. Responsibilities
- To identify key C-suite individuals and build our presence in the Hong Kong market
- Support the growth strategy, by creating or improving our value proposition and go to market strategy
- Lead end-to-end oversight into the delivery of complex, large-scale initiatives
- Lead and develop forward-thinking solutions across various pillars such as technology, people and process for our insurance clients
- Lead transformation projects and process improvement initiatives for multi-national insurers
- Work cross functionally to develop and execute digital transformation strategies to ensure our clients achieve their growth and efficiency objectives
- Synthesize market and industry trends into clearly articulated, tailored, and market differentiated client solutions
- Proactively engage with clients and Capco leadership in regular strategic & planning discussions; cultivate and manage a pipeline of work with clients
- Drive commercial growth of our insurance domain across Hong Kong and APAC
- Lead, Manage and mentor resources to grow in their careers
Key requirement for this role is to have a background in Insurance within one or more of these capability areas:
- A Solid Network across Hong Kong Insurance market
- Insurance strategy with transformation experience
- Digital transformation
- Data strategy, data management, data engineering & data analytics
- Business & finance transformation
- Technology strategy, architecture development and technology transformation
- A demonstrated network of relationships across the Hong Kong Insurance market at senior levels.
- Strong communication and presentation skills across all levels from C-suite to internal engagement teams and vendors.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in the Insurance Industry with a specific focus on digital transformation across Operations, Underwriting, Distribution and/or Claims.
- 5+ years’ experience in one or more of the following areas within Insurance: digital transformation, agile transformation, operational excellence, designing/implementing target operating model
- A strong understanding of the project lifecycle and the ability to employ these concepts in process design, system implementation and the development of client deliverable
- Business analysis experience in insurance capability uplift and digital ways of working – including designing or implementing target operating model strategies.
- Experience delivering large scale program initiatives, reporting directly to senior stakeholders and managing multiple teams
- Highly effective relationship management skills, with the ability to find ways of solving or pre-empting problems
- Must have a strong track record of delivery, driving business development within a consulting role, as well as the generation of sales
- Strong executive presence and stakeholder management skills

- Practical experience across disciplines such as enterprise risk / operational risk / conduct risk / third party risk / regulatory advisory / internal controls / regulatory risk management / risk analytics / risk and internal control frameworks
- Experience in the financial services industry, preferably in a international accounting/advisory/consulting organization or multinational insurance company or insurance regulator
- Knowledge in analyzing regulations and proposed regulatory changes
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong communication skills in English and Chinese (spoken and written)
- Working knowledge of Insurance Risk Based Capital regimes (Pillar 2 / ERM), Financial Risk, Product Risk, Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA), Stress and Scenario testing
- An understanding of industry standards for internal controls / risk management such as COSO ERM/ICF, ISO 31000, COBIT etc
- Experience using eGRC platforms such as RSA Archer, Metricstream, BWise, Refinitiv, Openpages etc
- An understanding of insurance distribution models
- Effective time management and project management, interpersonal and influencing skills are essential
- Client-service oriented and accustomed to taking a proactive approach

Your Key Responsibilities
- As part of a team of professionals, provide advisory services to clients on the development and implementation of policies, systems and controls, and regulatory issues
- Provision of regulatory compliance, risk assessment, business process controls and operational projects, including the development of project plans and approach
- Design, enhancement, implementation and review of risk and compliance programs
- The assessment of enterprise-wide, operational and/or regulatory risk at all levels of the client’s corporate structure
- Analyse client’s current business processes and understand their risk management environments
- Assist clients in understanding and meeting regulatory requirements, including responding to the findings of regulatory examinations
- Review policies and procedures against Hong Kong regulatory requirements and against international best practices, identify opportunities for enhancement, assist clients in developing an implementation strategy and resolve implementation issues
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory developments both locally and internationally
- Develop business opportunities and potential openings with clients
- Experience in analysing or advising clients / business stakeholders on current and emerging Hong Kong risk and regulatory matters will be a definite advantage
- Ability to interact with executive levels of client and EY management
To qualify for the role you must have
- University degree majoring in risk management, accounting, analytics, actuarial, information systems or business related subjects
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with Hong Kong, APAC and global insurance regulations
- Practical experience across disciplines such as enterprise risk / operational risk / conduct risk / third party risk / regulatory advisory / internal controls / regulatory risk management / risk analytics / risk and internal control frameworks
- Experience in the financial services industry, preferably in a international accounting/advisory/consulting organization or multinational insurance company or insurance regulator
- Knowledge in analyzing regulations and proposed regulatory changes
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strong communication skills in English and Chinese (spoken and written)
- Working knowledge of Insurance Risk Based Capital regimes (Pillar 2 / ERM), Financial Risk, Product Risk, Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA), Stress and Scenario testing
- An understanding of industry standards for internal controls / risk management such as COSO ERM/ICF, ISO 31000, COBIT etc
- Experience using eGRC platforms such as RSA Archer, Metricstream, BWise, Refinitiv, Openpages etc
- An understanding of insurance distribution models
- Effective time management and project management, interpersonal and influencing skills are essential
- Client-service oriented and accustomed to taking a proactive approach
- Relevant professional qualifications such as HKICPA, CFA, FRM are preferred
- Strong project management and coordination skills

Service Line Overview
KPMG’s Financial Risk Management (FRM) team advises clients on the development and implementation of risk management policies, systems and controls. Working with professionals from KPMG International and local network we offer a broad range of financial risk management services to help international banks, insurance companies, asset managers, and corporate and public clients identify, assess, manage, report, and limit the risks they face.
Our scope of the work covers the full spectrum of financial risks, such as credit risk, market risk, operational risk and liquidity risk; economic capital, capital management, stress testing, risk modelling and validation; regulatory compliance issues; ESG and Asset and Liability Management. Clients include local and foreign financial institutions, and there is a strong focus on financial institutions in mainland China.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the execution of FRM Market/Credit Risk/ESG/ALM engagements to ensure quality service is delivered
- Develop and maintain productive client relationships, maximising business opportunities
- Supervise a growing specialist team and contribute to the career development of team members
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of risk management practices, both locally and internationally.
- Build strong internal relationships within Advisory practice and across other services.
- Around 5 - 7 years’ experience in professional services advisory, quantitative risks, international banking, insurance or ablue chip company with demonstrable experience in financial risk management
- Possess in-depth of knowledge in either of the areas below:
- Financial Risk Management or financial risk controls and processes within Banking or Securities firms
- Quantitative skill set for the construction, validation and implementation of financial risk models, such as:
- derivatives, structured products and pricing models in either FX or interest rates,
- stochastic calculus,
- market risk, credit risk and/or climate risk stress testing,
- PD%, LGD, EAD or development of expert judgment scorecards
- Capital treatments for banking/trading book and interest rate related instruments, currency and commodities,and equity in the trading book under the Basel (CBIRC or HKMA) definitions
- Understanding of VaR analysis and related control processes and policies
- Technical understanding of structured financial instruments, OTC products and their risk profiles (assetclass can be Prime and/or Credit Products, FI and Equity Derivatives, and/or Rates/FX)
- Knowledge of advanced approaches for Credit/Market Risk (IMA) including backtesting, FIRB and/or AIRB
- IFRS 9 Impairments and Expected Credit Loss Modelling
- ESG framework, including understanding of regulatory expectations, and risk assessment methodologies covering impacts to strategy, risk appetite and limits, business and risk processes and controls.
- Asset and Liability Management
- Experience with SAS, Python, C++, R or Mat-Lab is a plus
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to gain the confidence and respect of senior executives
- Strong planning and organizing skills, with the ability to work effectively under pressure managing multiple/large scale projects or project deliverables
- Excellent analytical skills coupled with a pragmatic approach to problem solving
- Fluent in both English with excellent business and technical writing and presentation skills. Proficiency in Chinese(Mandarin and Cantonese) is a strong advantage
- Degree holder in Statistics, Risk Management, Accounting/Financial and Actuarial Engineering/Business Mathematics or any other business-related discipline
- HKICPA, CFA or FRM Designation preferable
- Candidates with lesser experience will be considered for a Senior Consultant role
