Lab Manager - Hardlines - (Temp role) - Urgent Hire
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Temporary Lab Manager to oversee daily operations of our Mechanical Testing Labs across Asia. This is a critical, urgent, short-term leadership role to ensure seamless lab operations, compliance, testing throughput, and cross-regional coordination during a transitional period. The ideal candidate has a background in furniture, toys, or hardline consumer products, with proven experience managing technical testing teams in a multi-site, fast-paced environment
Responsibilities
:
- Maintain lab safety, calibration, equipment upkeep, and ISO/testing protocol compliance.
- Act as the main escalation point for technical issues, client queries, and reporting.
- Liaise with QA, R&D, and Product teams to align testing priorities and resolve bottlenecks.
- Prepare daily/weekly operational reports and flag risks to senior management.
- Support onboarding/training of new lab technicians as needed.
- Ensure smooth handover at end of contract.
Requirements
:
- Immediate availability - must be able to start within 1-2 weeks.
- 15+ years' experience in mechanical testing labs, preferably in furniture, toys, or hardline consumer goods.
- Proven track record managing multi-site or multi-country technical teams.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical testing standards (e.g., ASTM, EN, ISO, CPSIA, etc.).
- Excellent communication and coordination skills across cultures and time zones.
- Fluent in English, and Chinese.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, ambiguous, or transitional environments.

In this role, you will lead the Innovation Lab within the Customer Contact department, driving initiatives to enhance customer experience, optimise revenue, and deliver cost efficiencies. Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Management: Lead and manage the Innovation Lab team, including Advisors and Leads, ensuring insights are representative of the entire department
- Project Business support: Oversee the development and implementation of innovative projects, such as Conversational IVR/ Voice Bots, Integrated Agent desktop, Voice Biometrics etc
- Customer Experience Improvement: Propose and implement new ideas to improve customer experience, such as reducing idle time and enhancing call flow designs
- Collaboration: Work closely with the Genesys team and other departments to ensure seamless integration of new solutions
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor agent productivity and customer satisfaction, using tools like Service Level Agreement features to track Average Handle Time and productivity by hubs. Justify Return on Investment and support benefits realization
- Innovation: Drive the development of new technologies and processes, including Robotic Process Automation and AI initiatives, to streamline operations and reduce manpower requirements. Support the development of voice bots using customer intent

Requirements
- Tertiary educated with minimum 10-12 years of Contact Centre or Service Delivery experience in a leadership role

Laboratory Safety Unit (LSU) is a central university unit under the Office of the Vice-President (Research) that oversees safety and regulatory compliance matters pertaining to teaching and research laboratory activities.
DutiesThe appointee will support senior members of LSU to carry out responsibilities in relation to the services, projects, and programmes run by LSU. He/She will be given the opportunity to receive significant professional development to gain relevant professional experience and qualify for different safety professional recognitions. Main duties include:
Overseeing the implementation of laboratory safety management programmes, including biological safety, chemical safety, radiation safety, laser safety, laboratory design reviews, pre-occupancy inspections, risk management and research safety;
Conducting regular safety inspections in both on-campus and off-campus university laboratories and preparing comprehensive reports;
Investigating laboratory-related incidents and accidents and preparing detailed investigation reports;
Overseeing and managing laboratory safety databases, electronic systems and e-platforms;
Overseeing the occupational hygiene programme, including respiratory protection and workplace hazard assessments;
Leading and advising on exposure assessments and evaluating health hazards as required;
Providing high-level administrative support to LSU and relevant Safety Committees and supervising a technical team delivering professional services;
Monitoring laboratory safety compliance; analysing safety performance data and reporting findings to laboratory safety committees;
Providing strategic advice on laboratory design and space planning and ensuring compliance for high-impact initiatives and new off-campus facilities; and

A Bachelor's degree in Biology/Chemistry/Occupational Hygiene or related disciplines, with a minimum of 10 years' relevant safety experience at managerial/specialist levels, preferably in tertiary institutions, statutory bodies, government agencies or sized corporations with laboratory environment, plus international safety professional qualifications, including Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or Certified Professional in Environment Safety, and Health (CPESH);
Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua) and good communication and interpersonal skills; and
Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Power BI, and Canva are required.
Experience in a safety office of a research tertiary institution with a laboratory environment and possession of a legal studies or law diploma is highly preferable.
Preference will also be given to candidates with relevant safety, health and public health memberships (e.g. IOSH, HKIOEH, CABE, etc.).
Knowledge of the ServiceNow Interface will be an advantage.

Assist in an established laboratory and provision of related facilities, operation and maintenance of the laboratory, procurement of laboratory equipment and regents; manage inventory of laboratory equipment and items; maintain and operate all shared laboratory facilities; establish and maintain laboratory standard operating procedures; and assist in the R&D projects where required.
RequirementsApplicants should have a bachelor's degree, preferably in biological or biomedical sciences, at least 3-4 years' relevant experience; knowledge in laboratory setting and practice will be an asset. A team player with a story sense of responsibility, independent, good interpersonal and problem-solving skills; knowledge in general laboratory and research equipment management and competent in MS Office is preferable. On-the-job training will be provided.
Salary and BenefitsA highly competitive salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience in addition to medical and dental benefits as well as annual leave. The appointment will be offered on a contract basis, renewable subject to mutual agreement and performance.
