Research Assistant I/II in Canthevac Limited (to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance).
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or above in Bioinformatics, Computing/Programming, or a related field. The appointee will be supervised by a research and development team focusing on protein modeling and de-novo protein design. Job Description And Responsibilities
- Participate in research and design of passive integrated photonic components (e.g., waveguides, couplers, splitters, meta-surfaces, etc.), and active components (e.g., lasers, modulators, detectors, etc.) for linear and nonlinear optical applications, based on Si, SiN, LiNbO3 and other emerging material platforms;
- Assist in tape-out and test structures design according to project specifications and predefined goals;
- Assist in nano-fabrication of photonic integrated devices;
- Define measurement plans, acquire optical components, build manual or automated test setups, and perform laboratory administrative duties;
- Perform chip and/or wafer level measurements, analyze test data, and present the outcome through reports/presentation;
- Support the team research portfolio via publication (IP, journals, conferences, etc.);
- Assist in translation of research outcomes into commercially viable products and applications;
- Support various Centre’s events & activities;
- Handle other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor(s)
- Bachelor’s degree in Photonics, Microelectronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related fields. Holder of a Master’s degree will be a plus.
- Experience with simulation and modeling tools for active and passive integrated photonic components, e.g., Lumerical, Comsol, Silvaco TCAD, etc;
- Experience with common layout EDA tools, e.g., gdsfactory, Luceda IPKISS, KLayout, etc;
- Hand-on nano-fabrication experiences in a cleanroom environment; familiar with common fabrication processes and equipment;
- Experience in designing, building, and using free-space and fiber-based optical characterization setups;
- Experience in software development for automated testing tasks with common programming languages (python, MATLAB, C++, etc.);
- Fluent in English in both academic writing and verbal communications;
- Self-motivated and proactive team player who can be assertive to achieve results;
- May require collaborative working modes in different labs and physical locations

Research Assistant I (C2i 108- P1)
Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant I in the Research Program 1 of Centre of Immunology & Infection to commence as soon as possible on a one-year temporary basis or two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and mutual agreement. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge projects involving multi-omics big data analysis, with a focus on immunology, genomics, and translational biomedical research.
Responsibilities
- Conduct Molecular Biology Experiments: Perform bench work techniques such as DNA/RNA extraction, cytokine profiling, , and flow cytometry to generate immunological data from samples.
- Analyze Big Data: Process and analyze large-scale immunological datasets (e.g., single-cell RNA-seq, proteomics) using computational tools like R, Python, or bioinformatics pipelines to identify immune response patterns.
- Manage Immunology Sample Recruitment: Coordinate the collection, processing, and storage of biological samples (e.g., blood, tissue) from clinical or research sources, ensuring compliance with ethical and regulatory standards.
- Maintain Data Integrity: Record experimental and computational results accurately in electronic lab notebooks, ensuring data traceability and reproducibility.
- Collaborate with Teams: Work with interdisciplinary teams, including immunologists, bioinformaticians, and clinicians, to integrate experimental and analytical findings and support project goals.
- Assist in Protocol Development: Contribute to designing and optimizing experimental and analytical protocols, troubleshooting issues to improve assay or analysis reliability.
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in immunology, molecular biology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, biochemistry, public health, or a related field. Candidate with less experience would be considered as Research Assistant II.
- Bench Work Experience: Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques, including at least two of the following: DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR, ELISA, or flow cytometry.
- Computational Skills: Proficiency in data analysis tools such as R Programming, Python, AI platform with experience in handling large datasets (e.g., NGS or proteomic data).
- Sample Management Experience: Familiarity with biobanking, sample processing, or human subjects research, including knowledge of biosafety and ethical guidelines.
- Analytical Thinking: Ability to interpret complex immunological data and troubleshoot experimental or computational challenges.
- Communication Skills: Strong written and oral communication skills for documenting experiments, presenting findings, and collaborating with team members.
- Organizational Skills: Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and maintain accurate records in a fast-paced lab environment.

Applications are invited for appointment as Research Assistant I / II (Ref.: H01/2025/062) for innovative research projects in the theme of Advanced Medical Device Components based at the Hong Kong Science Park.
Job Description
- Driving research activities towards defined goals in specified timeline
- Identifying technology development opportunities to solve major problems in the healthcare sector
- Processing in data analysis and management
- Drafting reports and other publications
- Delivering high-quality presentations to collaborators and industrial partners
- Performing various laboratory administrative duties
- Supporting various Centre’s events & activities
- Handling other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor(s)
- Field of Study: MPhil or BSc degree in Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Physics or related disciplines
- Preferably with research experience in electrocorticography, brain-computer interface, device fabrications, flexible electronics, sensors, cleanroom
- Fresh graduates with outstanding academic achievement and strong passion in applied research of biomedical instrumentation will also be considered
- Fluent in English in both writing and verbal communications; clear and concise writing skills
- Good time management with a strong sense of responsibility and research ethics
- Mature, self-motivated, confident and able to work under pressure

Major Duties And Responsibilities
The appointee will mainly assist the research team in a research project “Development of Smart Analytic System with IoT Technology for Renewable Energy Feed-in Tariff in Suburban Agricultural Area” (R6494). The appointee will be responsible mainly for the following:
- Designing and validating coupled multi-physics models for agrivoltaics-wind systems under subtropical microclimates;
- Deploying IoT-enabled smart monitoring systems for crops, livestock, and renewable energy generation;
- Implementing machine learning algorithms to optimize energy generation, agricultural productivity, and cost-efficiency;
- Conducting experiments and collecting data using IoT sensors (e.g., soil moisture, solar irradiance, wind speed);
- Optimizing resource allocation (e.g., sunlight, ventilation) between energy and agricultural outputs;
- Collaborating effectively with cross-disciplinary teams, including engineers, agronomists, and economists; and
- Maintaining detailed documentation of system configurations and operational procedures, and publishing research findings in peer-reviewed conferences and journals.
Candidates Should Possess The Following Qualifications, Experience And Competence
- At least 5 subjects with Level 2 in HKDSE or equivalent, including English & Chinese languages and Mathematics / Diploma (for Technical Assistant);
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Agricultural), Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related discipline; (for Research Assistant II);
- Master’s degree in Engineering (Electrical/Mechanical/Agricultural), Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related discipline; (for Research Assistant I);
- Candidates with prior research experience in IoT, renewable energy, or smart agriculture are highly desirable;
- Candidates with the following skills are preferred;
- Programming: Python, MATLAB, or C++ for modelling and data analysis;
- IoT & Hardware: Sensor networks, Arduino/Raspberry Pi, and wireless protocols (LoRa, ZigBee, NB-IoT);
- Data Analytics: Machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, scikit-learn) and statistical tools (R, Excel);
- Domain Knowledge: Familiarity with photovoltaic systems, wind energy, and agricultural microclimates;
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders;
- A strong sense of responsibility, coupled with effective organizational and interpersonal skills; and
- Proficiency in both English and Chinese.
Successful candidate will be appointed on a temporary full-time contract. Benefits will be provided in accordance with the statutory provisions.
