Project Manager, Legal Software Professional Services, Asia

The role requires the person to work closely with other project team members, peer project managers and partner consulting teams. The person will provide consulting services to external clients, manage and lead projects to successful outcomes for clients and Thomson Reuters, and be the partner to clients by providing deep subject matter expertise and helping them adopt technological change.

About the Role

In this opportunity as Project Manager, Legal Software Professional Services, Asia , you will:

Owns the delivery of Legal Software project implementations for customers across Corporates and Legal Firms

  • Drives the successful delivery of global projects pertaining to the implementation of Thomson Reuters Legal Software products, namely HighQ, Contract Express and Legal Tracker.
  • Establishes strong project governance practices, leading clients to implement, adopt and retain Thomson Reuters products.
  • Can scope out a small/mid/large projects based on business requirements and achievable benefits.
  • Can create Statement-of-Work and workplans. Can direct and guide the customer and teams to on-time and on-budget completion for both time and material and fixed fee projects.
  • Manages portfolio level profitability to achieve financials KPIs.

Provides subject matter leadership to clients and team.

  • Builds strong client relationships, leveraging those relationships to drive upsell and cross sell
  • Brings strong functional and domain knowledge on Legal process transformation. Serves as a "trusted business advisor" to clients.
  • Engages with General Counsels, lawyers and IT departments, leading conversations and guiding decisions
  • Manages client relationships, especially at C-levels and Department Heads.
  • Provides subject matter depth and expertise to team.

Provides Leadership to a matrix team

  • Spends a portion of time managing team or providing guidance.
  • Has autonomy to make exceptions that follow established guidelines.
  • Responsible for cost of own team/project, and/or contributing to forecasting budgets and recommending expenditure.
  • Responsible for quality and timeliness of own work, as well as accountability for members of the team.
  • Gives advice to team members and colleagues on functional matters.
  • Broad decision making authority for routine issues.
  • Provides key insights and formulates recommendations to the broader function.

About You

You’re a fit for the role of Project Manager, Legal Software Professional Services, Asia if your background includes:

  • Strong experience in project management, legal advisory, professional services or consulting experience in a client-facing roles.
  • Strong experience in Legal Tech industry, implementing or managing technology-enabled transformations or process changes.
  • Experience in adopting or implementing technology in legal function in Firms or Corporates, with a good understanding of how technology can bring efficiencies and key challenges involved
  • Specialized Industry knowledge required:
    • Deep experience in enterprise scale legal software implementation or product companies
    • Deep domain and functional expertise in Legal Operations, with strong understanding of legal process in Corporates and Legal Firms.
  • Must possess strong cross team/group/org collaboration skills; ability to foresee and analyze project risks, develop risk management plan and mitigate subsequent issues.
  • Must have high-powered analytical skills and the ability to understand concepts and situations that require quick decision for mitigation.
  • fluent in written and spoken English and Mandarin.
  • The position requires up to 25% travel.

  • Work with and manage external counsel and undertake a mix of typical in-house functions

Requirements:

The ideal candidate for this role should possess the following attributes:

  • Hong Kong qualified lawyer with at least 8 years' post qualification experience and a focus on or exposure to financial services/regulatory matters
  • Excellent written and spoken English and good Chinese language skills is essential with proficiency in Putonghua would be an added advantage
  • A strong team player with good commercial sense and the ability to work independently
  • Candidates with experience in the following areas will be considered favourably: experience in derivatives (including OTC derivatives), providing advice on the Securities and Futures Ordinance and the rules and regulations of the exchanges and the clearing houses or financial regulation in other major jurisdictions
  • Prior in-house experience is helpful but not essential. Experience gained from international law firms, overseas exchanges or clearing houses will add great value to this role

Role Overview

We are seeking a collaborative and sharp Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to join our expanding legal team. This is a high-impact role supporting the legal and regulatory functions of our licensed virtual asset exchange operating in Hong Kong, Bermuda, the UAE, and other jurisdictions. The role includes advisory on regulatory interaction, licensing, commercial partnerships, risk disclosures and marketing initiatives, with strong scope for career growth and meaningful work in digital finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a key legal advisor for the Group’s regulated exchange businesses
  • Strategically problem solving through regulatory enquiries, hands-on drafting of regulatory responses and manage fire drills. Dismantle complex or novel regulatory scenarios, such as new licensing criteria, product approval cycles, or shifting regulatory obligations, by designing tailored approaches that balance business objectives with full regulatory compliance
  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial and exchange-related contracts, including distribution, listing, custodian agreements, OTC, fund related documentation, partnership MOUs, confidentiality agreements, intragroup agreements and service arrangements, core client/user-facing documentation, terms and conditions, legal disclaimers, risk disclosures, etc.
  • Continuously monitor the evolving local and international regulatory landscape affecting virtual asset exchanges, proactively identifying how new or proposed regulations may impact the business. Devise coordinated strategies for rapid compliance and risk mitigation, involving consultation with cross-functional teams
  • Provide structured legal input in due diligence processes, product risk assessments, and investor communications
  • Work cross-functionally with the business team, operations, product, compliance, risk and marketing personnel to assess contractual risks and ensure alignment with regulatory expectations

What We Are Looking For

  • Legal qualification in Hong Kong or the United States (HK-qualified preferred)
  • 1-3 years’ PQE with corporate or disputes (non contentious) experience with a reputable law firm; additional in-house experience in virtual assets, securities, or fintech sectors is ideal.
  • Exceptional legal drafting skills
  • Strategic thinker, capable of juggling multiple priorities and managing tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide advice under pressure and at pace
  • Hands-on experience working with or advising regulated financial institutions, or engaging with regulatory authorities
  • Adaptability to a rapidly evolving industry and familiarity with or interest in digital asset regulatory frameworks

Role Overview

We are seeking a collaborative and sharp Legal Counsel or Senior Legal Counsel to join our expanding legal team. This is a high-impact role supporting the legal and regulatory functions of our licensed virtual asset exchange operating in Hong Kong, Bermuda, the UAE, and other jurisdictions. The role includes advisory on regulatory interaction, licensing, commercial partnerships, risk disclosures and marketing initiatives, with strong scope for career growth and meaningful work in digital finance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a key legal advisor for the Group’s regulated exchange businesses
  • Strategically problem solving through regulatory enquiries, hands-on drafting of regulatory responses and manage fire drills. Dismantle complex or novel regulatory scenarios, such as new licensing criteria, product approval cycles, or shifting regulatory obligations, by designing tailored approaches that balance business objectives with full regulatory compliance
  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial and exchange-related contracts, including distribution, listing, custodian agreements, OTC, fund related documentation, partnership MOUs, confidentiality agreements, intragroup agreements and service arrangements, core client/user-facing documentation, terms and conditions, legal disclaimers, risk disclosures, etc.
  • Continuously monitor the evolving local and international regulatory landscape affecting virtual asset exchanges, proactively identifying how new or proposed regulations may impact the business. Devise coordinated strategies for rapid compliance and risk mitigation, involving consultation with cross-functional teams
  • Provide structured legal input in due diligence processes, product risk assessments, and investor communications
  • Work cross-functionally with the business team, operations, product, compliance, risk and marketing personnel to assess contractual risks and ensure alignment with regulatory expectations

What We Are Looking For

  • Legal qualification in Hong Kong or the United States (HK-qualified preferred)
  • 1-3 years’ PQE with corporate or disputes (non contentious) experience with a reputable law firm; additional in-house experience in virtual assets, securities, or fintech sectors is ideal.
  • Exceptional legal drafting skills
  • Strategic thinker, capable of juggling multiple priorities and managing tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to provide advice under pressure and at pace
  • Hands-on experience working with or advising regulated financial institutions, or engaging with regulatory authorities
  • Adaptability to a rapidly evolving industry and familiarity with or interest in digital asset regulatory frameworks
  • Language proficiency in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin (written and spoken)

What you’ll do:

  • Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, this position supports key business and customer initiatives of the company.
  • Provide legal support on key functional and operational areas such as contracting, intellectual property, payments, licensing and other regulatory matters.
  • Collaborate with product, marketing and business teams to ensure compliance in product development and business initiatives.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and key cross-functional stakeholders to provide expert legal advice and guidance on customer trust issues, including consumer protection, marketing and advertising laws and terms of service.
  • Collaborate with customer experience team to manage and respond to customer complaints, inquiries, and regulatory investigations related to consumer protection and privacy.
  • Support litigation and dispute resolution efforts as needed.

What you’ll need:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in reputable law firms and/or MNCs; experience working with startup companies or in an entrepreneurial environment a plus. More experienced candidates will be considered for the position of Managing Counsel.
  • Experience in tech, e-commerce and/or customer trust related matters.
  • Experience with the US and/or Europe a plus.
  • Flexible and hard-working, with a can-do attitude, practical and solution driven.
  • Analytical and commercially minded, fast learner and tech savvy.

As a legal counsel in the Asia Wealth and Asset Management Legal team, you will have the opportunity to advise on legal and regulatory matters relating to investment products and strategies across all asset classes in Hong Kong. In particular, you will provide legal support for product registration and launches, product maintenance and distribution.

Position Responsibilities

  • Draft, review and advise on fund offerings and organizational documentation, fund restructurings and agreements relating to the establishment or utilization of platforms/channels for fund distribution
  • Provide legal advice on all other matters (including corporate governance) in relation to retail funds/MPF funds
  • Handle a wide range of operational legal matters
  • Partner and collaborate with legal teams in other jurisdictions to support global/regional projects, including cross border activities
  • Monitor legislative, regulatory and industry developments and advise stakeholders of regulatory changes in Hong Kong

Required Qualifications

  • Hong Kong qualified lawyer between 3 -5 PQE with law firms or in-house asset management experience
  • Solid understanding of retail funds in Hong Kong (e.g. unit trust/UCITS), including types of vehicles, organizational structures, offerings and operations and distribution channels and knowledge of the same in other fund domiciles (e.g. Cayman) is a plus
  • Solid understanding of institutional funds and mandates
  • Experience in working with regulators (especially the SFC (and/or the MPFA))
  • Strong understanding of the Hong Kong regulatory environment
  • Must be licensed to practice law in Hong Kong and a member in good standing

Reporting to Mandarin Oriental’s Group Counsel (based in Hong Kong) you will work alongside other lawyers in the Legal Department, currently based in Hong Kong, London and Geneva. The Legal Counsel is responsible for managing all legal issues related to Mandarin Oriental’s business and entities worldwide, including providing legal advice, drafting and negotiating major contractual documentation, handling litigation and disputes, and providing legal support to Mandarin Oriental’s corporate offices, hotels, exceptional homes and branded residences.

YOU ARE an exceptional lawyer around 3-7 years PQE . Hospitality industry experience, particularly in hotel or residences management agreements, will be a strong preference for consideration.

EXPECTATIONS

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Law degree, and current admission in a common law jurisdiction

At least three years PQE

Considerable experience with hospitality work, preferably hotel management agreements

Faultless fluency in legal-level English, both written and spoken (fluency in other languages an advantage)

Excellent communications and interpersonal skills

Excellent negotiating and drafting skills

Ability to work independently while interacting with and advising all levels of the organization
