WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The Scientific Communications Manager will engage cross-functionally for the rollout of product launches relating to The Ordinary brand in China and APAC. They will execute a variety of tasks related to scientific communication strategies for new product developments (NPDs) and existing product developments (EPDs), ingredient and skin science literature research, ingredient and product efficacy claims, consumer queries, expert commentary, content creation & reviews, while ensuring accurate scientific foundation and relevance in each market.

This is a permanent full-time position based in the Estee Lauder offices in Hong Kong . It is a hybrid role, working from the office 3 days per week.

WHAT YOU'D BE DOING IN THIS ROLE

  • Develop impactful strategy and content-rich communications to highlight the company’s science-led proposition externally in partnership with the broader Scientific team
  • Manage all the aspects of scientific communications for NPD/EPD projects in China and APAC by collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including R&D, Brand and external partners
  • Work closely with Clinical Research, Regulatory, Legal and the Product Marketing teams to develop, substantiate and ensure approval of scientific product and ingredient claims
  • Work closely with R&D and other Scientific disciplines to support a better understanding of regional trends, consumer profiling and scientific storytelling opportunities
  • Review scientific literature and clinical evidence to develop core content for products to drive professional engagement, Brand copy and asset construction
  • Work cross-functionally to drive the collation of scientific evidence in support of Partnership campaigns and launches in new markets and/or new channels
  • Serve as the science subject matter expert in editing and reviewing marketing content for scientific accuracy, providing insight and edits to ensure tone/language that resonates with “skintellectuals”
  • Conduct interviews with media, influencers and participates in live engagements, including masterclasses
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams within the business to ensure that launches function cohesively across touchpoints

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE

  • Fluent in Mandarin and English, with excellent written skills
  • Undergraduate Degree in Cosmetic Science or a related field (e.g. biochemistry, health/life sciences, pharmaceuticals)
  • Strong storyteller and exceptional writer who can engage with our SMEs and market confidently and convincingly
  • Effective communicator who can passionately speak to the importance of visual communication in science
  • Ability and willingness to travel

Applications are invited for appointments as Research Assistant/ Research Associate (Ref.: H01/2025/054) for innovative and inter-disciplinary research projects in the themes of integrated photonics for bio-medical imaging and sensing.

Job Description And Responsibilities

  • Participate in research and design of passive integrated photonic components (e.g., waveguides, couplers, splitters, meta-surfaces, etc.), and active components (e.g., lasers, modulators, detectors, etc.) for linear and nonlinear optical applications, based on Si, SiN, LiNbO3 and other emerging material platforms;
  • Assist in tape-out and test structures design according to project specifications and predefined goals;
  • Assist in nano-fabrication of photonic integrated devices;
  • Define measurement plans, acquire optical components, build manual or automated test setups, and perform laboratory administrative duties;
  • Perform chip and/or wafer level measurements, analyze test data, and present the outcome through reports/presentation;
  • Support the team research portfolio via publication (IP, journals, conferences, etc.);
  • Assist in translation of research outcomes into commercially viable products and applications;
  • Support various Centre’s events & activities;
  • Handle other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor(s)


Skills And Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Photonics, Microelectronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related fields. Holder of a Master’s degree will be a plus.
  • Experience with simulation and modeling tools for active and passive integrated photonic components, e.g., Lumerical, Comsol, Silvaco TCAD, etc;
  • Experience with common layout EDA tools, e.g., gdsfactory, Luceda IPKISS, KLayout, etc;
  • Hand-on nano-fabrication experiences in a cleanroom environment; familiar with common fabrication processes and equipment;
  • Experience in designing, building, and using free-space and fiber-based optical characterization setups;
  • Experience in software development for automated testing tasks with common programming languages (python, MATLAB, C++, etc.);
  • Fluent in English in both academic writing and verbal communications;
  • Self-motivated and proactive team player who can be assertive to achieve results;
  • May require collaborative working modes in different labs and physical locations

Job Description And Responsibilities

  • Participate in research and design of passive integrated photonic components (e.g., waveguides, couplers, splitters, meta-surfaces, etc.), and active components (e.g., lasers, modulators, detectors, etc.) for linear and nonlinear optical applications, based on Si, SiN, LiNbO3 and other emerging material platforms;
  • Assist in tape-out and test structures design according to project specifications and predefined goals;
  • Assist in nano-fabrication of photonic integrated devices;
  • Define measurement plans, acquire optical components, build manual or automated test setups, and perform laboratory administrative duties;
  • Perform chip and/or wafer level measurements, analyze test data, and present the outcome through reports/presentation;
  • Support the team research portfolio via publication (IP, journals, conferences, etc.);
  • Assist in translation of research outcomes into commercially viable products and applications;
  • Support various Centre’s events & activities;
  • Handle other relevant tasks as assigned by the supervisor(s)
Skills And Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Photonics, Microelectronics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related fields. Holder of a Master’s degree will be a plus.
  • Experience with simulation and modeling tools for active and passive integrated photonic components, e.g., Lumerical, Comsol, Silvaco TCAD, etc;
  • Experience with common layout EDA tools, e.g., gdsfactory, Luceda IPKISS, KLayout, etc;
  • Hand-on nano-fabrication experiences in a cleanroom environment; familiar with common fabrication processes and equipment;
  • Experience in designing, building, and using free-space and fiber-based optical characterization setups;
  • Experience in software development for automated testing tasks with common programming languages (python, MATLAB, C++, etc.);
  • Fluent in English in both academic writing and verbal communications;
  • Self-motivated and proactive team player who can be assertive to achieve results;
  • May require collaborative working modes in different labs and physical locations

  3. A strong publication record demonstrating high-quality research.

The appointee will be expected to work independently and collaboratively, manage ongoing research projects focused on mucosal vaccine development, and publish in high-impact journals. Skills in mechanistic studies of mucosal vaccines, GMP/GLP toxicology in animal models, and proficiency in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin are required.

  • Preferably with research experience in electrocorticography, brain-computer interface, device fabrications, flexible electronics, sensors, cleanroom
  • Fresh graduates with outstanding academic achievement and strong passion in applied research of biomedical instrumentation will also be considered
  • Fluent in English in both writing and verbal communications; clear and concise writing skills
  • Good time management with a strong sense of responsibility and research ethics
  • Mature, self-motivated, confident and able to work under pressure
