About the team

At Tesco our sourcing team leads the non-food sourcing activities for Tesco. We work closely with our UK buying teams and our suppliers in SEA and China to source and develop products at the best quality and prices for our customers, ensuring that they are delivered on time. We have an ambitious growth strategy across our Home & Clothing business and the Sourcing team is crucial in supporting the business to drive our plans.

The Home Commercial Team in Hong Kong is made up of 26 colleagues, reporting to the Head of Sourcing, South China, who also manages our Hong Kong hub. The Dine team, lead by our Sourcing Manager, Dine consists of 2 colleagues, who each look after a sub category.

About the role

This role will report to our Senior Sourcing Manager, Seasonal based in Hong Kong.

This role is responsible for sourcing products with our Seasonal category, such as celebrations and holidays. The role is fast paced and involves working to tight deadlines, particularly during our buying seasons or working on new product lines.

The role has a significant product development aspect and the successful candidate will have a strong understanding of trends and the technical aspects of product development, developing and delivering from the brief to sample, working with our Technical team to ensure they are of the right quality. They will also their expertise to work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders globally to implement our sourcing strategy, meet our goals, identify sourcing risks and work on diversifying our sourcing map to ensure our factory base is suitable and our product supply is stable.

The role is based in our Hong Kong hub in Kwun Tong. We have flexible working arrangements but like to spend as much time collaborating together in the office as we do working independently offsite. We prioritise making our business a great place to work, and all colleagues are encouraged to help organise and participate in different activities outside their day job.

You will be responsible for

  • Working with the UK buying teams, alongside the Sourcing Manager/ Senior Merchandiser, to source products as defined in the buying briefs
  • Understanding design trends and themes as briefed by the Design team and interpret their vision into products that customers love
  • Overseeing the entire product development process, from the initial request to final delivery including sample approvals
  • Working collaboratively with Responsible Sourcing, Technical and Supply Chain teams within Sourcing to monitor the critical path for exceptions and escalating any risks to the Sourcing Manager
  • Preparing buying trips and meetings with our suppliers
  • Negotiating the commercial terms and best cost prices with our suppliers
  • Actively develop relationships with suppliers across Asia to diversify our sourcing map and ensure we have a stable product supply
  • Preparing reports, analyses and presentation if required

You will need

  • Degree holder with experience in sourcing or merchandising for seasonal products
  • Product development experience, ideally for similar product categories
  • Strong project management and negotiation skills
  • Able to work independently with buyers and suppliers
  • Experience in European sourcing office/trading company preferred
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Mandarin
  • Good knowledge of product BOM and market intelligence
  • A good team player with helpful attitude to drive cross team collaboration
  • Strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, responsible, attentive to details, flexible to meet business dynamics
  • Experience in using design software is an advantage (Adobe illustrator & Photoshop)
