The team in Asia ex-Japan consists of four functions: External Communications, Internal Communications, Branding & Marketing, and Social Impact.
Role description:
Nomura is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to head the firm's External Communications and Branding & Marketing teams in Asia ex-Japan. The successful candidate will lead strategic advice to Nomura's business and corporate heads on how to enhance and protect the brand through both proactive and reactive engagement with the press as well as deepen Nomura's thought leadership and content strategy via paid and owned channels such as social media and websites. The role will involve regular interaction with target media journalists and editors, publishers, media buying agency, senior internal stakeholders and global Corporate Communications counterparts.
Additional responsibilities:
- External Communications
- Lead external communications and media relations across Asia ex-Japan, overseeing a small team that sits across Hong Kong, Singapore and Beijing
- Advise the firm's investment banking, global markets, international wealth management and investment management businesses on their external communications strategy
- Partner with senior management to prepare and write narratives, talking points, speeches and press releases, and execute plans to enhance brand visibility
- Arrange interviews, media teach-ins, press briefings, media conference calls
- Build and maintain relationships with key journalists relevant for each business across a mix of international and local media
- Enhance thought leadership by getting the firm's economists, strategists and business leaders to engage regularly with the press
- Train or arrange training for media spokespeople who will represent the firm
- Prepare crisis communications strategies and manage reputational risks
- Manage PR agencies in markets where Nomura engages them
- Assist the team to track media engagement, compile news coverage reports, conduct competitor analysis, and maintain media contact databases
- Coordinate pitches for industry awards
- Branding & Marketing
- Lead branding & marketing across Asia ex-Japan, managing a team of four
- Plan annual budgets and content by working closely with global branding team, publishers and media buying agency
- Contribute to global advertising campaign by generating ideas, writing copy and working with in-house designers to create television, print and digital ads
- Stay updated on latest in digital advertising trends and propose effective ways to integrate them into the group's branding and marketing strategy
- Write, review and manage content from the region for owned channels including Nomura's thought leadership website
- Oversee and manage the firm's social media (LinkedIn, X) content from Asia including reviewing and rewriting social media policies alongside compliance teams, and generating monitoring and metrics reports as needed
- Liaise with internal stakeholders to manage the creation of marketing materials (e.g. brochures, pitch books, fact sheets, websites, branded gifts, on-brand visual identities for events) for businesses and corporate functions such as HR
- Run internal brand engagement program by overseeing the creation of monthly newsletters and conducting workshops to continually engage internal stakeholders
Skills, experience, qualifications, and knowledge required:
- 10+ years of experience in corporate communications, media relations, content writing and strategy and/or journalism, with a focus on financial services
- University graduate in any discipline
- English speaker with an eloquent command of writing in English
- Fluency in any other Asian language will be viewed favourably
- Good interpersonal and networking skills
