Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee all tax matters in Hong Kong, with core responsibilities including but not limited to: accurate calculation, filing, and planning of corporate profits tax, ensuring tax compliance.
  2. Apply for and draft Hong Kong tax residency certificates for cross-border projects.

Overview:

The Payroll Tax Specialist is a key player in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our U.S. payroll operations. This role is responsible for the full lifecycle of all payroll tax-related tasks, including but not limited to, the timely and precise processing of tax filings and remittances, the diligent resolution of any variances, and the effective management of agency notices and payments. The specialist will also handle state and local tax registrations to ensure our company remains compliant in every jurisdiction. This position requires a strong drive for operational excellence, as payroll accuracy is critical to maintaining a high level of employee engagement and satisfaction here at Deel.

What You'll Do

  • Manage and process timely tax deposits and filings, adhering to deadlines and regulatory requirements.
  • Resolve quarter-end variances and establish scalable operational frameworks and SOPs
  • Identify and implement improvements in tax operations, including corrections and amendments.
  • First line of contact for federal, state, and local tax notices.
  • Investigate and resolve tax discrepancies.
  • Maintain communication with tax authorities and minimize errors impacting tax notices.
  • Communicate and collaborate with the finance team to ensure timely payments.
  • Proactively address payroll tax inquiries.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and escalate issues as necessary.
  • Lead Year-End process through auditing and balancing all reports to ensure filings are complete, correct, and timely
  • Maintain compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and ensure accounts are in good standing
  • Action notices received from agencies, research and resolution.
  • Collaborate with the US Payroll Team to develop and implement the operational foundational structure, workflows, and processes for the US payroll and tax management.
  • Conduct quality checks on payroll tax configurations to ensure accuracy
  • Identify and drive improvements across all critical tax operations processes, including payroll corrections and amendments

What You'll Need:

  • Minimum of five (5) years experience of tax resolution (filing, remitting, balancing)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of US payroll processing experience
  • Experience using MasterTax software required
  • CPP or similar certification is required
  • Experience with state/entity registration required
  • Comfortable working with large datasets
  • Proven experience in payroll tax compliance and tax notice resolution
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations
  • Experience working in enterprise payroll technology such as Workday, Deel, SAP, ADP, etc is highly preferred
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, ability to understand impact of payroll activity on financial statements and effectively partner with Finance in analyzing and explaining P&L and Balance sheet variances.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite, specifically Sheets, Documents, and Slides highly preferred.
  • Ability to use mathematics to problem solve.
  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to approach problems, analyze solutions, and reach conclusions.
  • Able to work independently with minimal guidance and able to work as part of a team.

We are looking to recruit a Director of Global Tax Compliance and Tax Accounting located in Hong Kong / Singapore to lead the rapidly growing tax compliance and tax accounting team at

This role offers the successful candidate a fantastic opportunity to manage the group tax compliance and tax accounting and will collaborate with tax team members on several key work streams of the tax function including transfer pricing structuring and tax/finance technology projects.

Reporting to the SVP – Global Head of Tax, the successful candidate will lead a team of direct reports and play a lead role in the group audit review of tax with external auditors and participate in transactions and structuring initiatives.

The ideal candidate will be a team player who leads by example, implements tax plans and works with cross-functional teams to identify value creation opportunities and strategies to mitigate tax risk.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee tax compliance agenda and implementation of group tax compliance policies in all jurisdictions
  • Review and manage consolidated and key subsidiary quarterly income tax provisions and deferred tax calculations, in accordance with ASC740 and IFRS, including related footnote disclosures
  • Prepare tax management reporting and modelling of the ETR and cash taxes
  • Manage tax audit review processes with external group auditors
  • Lead tax accounting aspects of acquisitions and other transactional activities
  • Lead future tax technology projects related to tax accounting, reporting, tax compliance and transfer pricing
  • Work closely with the transfer pricing team and review aspects of key intercompany transactions (financing, support services)
  • Lead or assist with other special projects and process improvements

Requirements

  • CPA or equivalent
  • 10+ years of experience with Big 4 public accounting and/or multinational corporate tax department in a public company
  • Strong background in ASC740 and IFRS tax accounting and reporting and leading compliance processes
  • Proven experience with managing complex international tax matters
  • Experience with implementation of tax accounting or tax compliance technological solutions
  • Experience with managing tax matters in multiple countries is preferred
  • Understanding of transfer pricing principles and their practical implementation
  • Strong leadership, project management, organizational and communication skills
  • A high-level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal agility and flexibility, combined with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Flexible and open-minded personality and "Hands-on" work mentality
  • Well organized and hardworking, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment and manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure
  • Excellen interpersonal, written and oral communication skills and great team player
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Your Key Responsibilities

As a Business Tax Services Senior, you’ll make technical contributions to business tax compliance and tax advisory engagements. You’ll actively establish, maintain and strengthen internal and external relationships. You may participate in preparing or reviewing income tax returns for complex organizations in diverse and specialized industries; identifying tax savings and risk reducing opportunities for consideration and implementation; preparing or reviewing the statutory accounts for a domestic or foreign client; and preparing estimated tax liabilities to assist the client in meeting its tax payment obligations.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Participate in business tax compliance and tax advisory engagements
  • Work effectively as a team member, sharing responsibility, providing support, maintaining communication and updating senior team members on progress
  • Assist in preparing reports and schedules that will be delivered to clients and other parties
  • Develop and maintain productive working relationships with client personnel
  • Build strong internal relationships within the business tax compliance team and across other services

To qualify for the role you must have

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field (MBA, Masters of Tax and LLM a plus) with strong academic credentials
  • A minimum of 2 years of Hong Kong corporate tax experience gained from the financial industry or public accounting firm is desirable
  • Professional accountancy qualification or working towards gaining one
  • Strong negotiation skills, able to sustain opinion and handle challenges
  • Team player with ability to create, sustain and lead effective teams
  • Fluent English and Cantonese, Mandarin will be an advantage

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
