We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Underwriting Manager.
Principal Responsibilities
- Implement HSBC underwriting Policy and Principle within the Chief Underwriting Office of HSBC and ensure that business is accepted on a sound and lasting profitable basis
- Accept or authorize the acceptance of new business cases or increases to existing policies within prescribed limits of personal authority, on a sound and profitable portfolio basis
- Proactively monitor underwriting rules, guidelines and philosophy as to its continuing market competitiveness, its effectiveness and in relation to emerging or changing medical and insurance risk principles and practice
- Identify opportunities to improve internal processes and procedures within and external to this role in order to enhance the overall customer quality delivery
- Ensure all activities are delivered in accordance with procedures and service standards and the business operates in accordance with Group and regulatory compliance and subject to robust internal controls
- Create and contribute to a customer friendly environment in accordance with our mission and vision, sensitive to and concerned with the needs and issues of the customers
- Develop and maintain sound and effective communications and relationships with internal and external customers
- Deal with challenges and problems promptly, effectively and professionally
Requirements
- Possess a degree qualification and having professional qualification; LOMA, ALU, ALUCA or CII will be desirable
- Extensive experience in insurance field and underwriting experience, solid experience in High Net Worth market
- Hold a substantial financial sum insured authority
- Ideally experienced in managing Broker and Commercial bank complex or jumbo cases including liaison with Reinsurers
- Hold a substantive complex medical health impairment authority to the order of +200% extra mortality or morbidity to Decline
- Hold full authority and experience over cross border international geographical, occupational and avocational risk assessment disciplines
- Possesses strong interpersonal, customer service and communication skills
- Be a self-motivated, proactive self-starter with the ability and attributes to act and perform with minimal direction or instruction
- Work beyond the boundaries of usual time and effort in meeting these expectations, creatively and innovatively in often addressing uniquely individual challenges in the High Net Worth Life Insurance market
