Role Summary
As the Head of Valuation, you will lead the reserving, financial reporting, and actuarial valuation functions for Bowtie. This role ensures accurate liability measurements and compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., IFRS 17, HKRBC), providing key insights into the company’s financial health.
Your Key Responsibilities Include:
- Reserving & Financial Reporting
- Lead the monthly and annual reserve valuation process for all lines of business (Life, Health, Protection, Reinsurance).
- Ensure reserves are set in compliance with IFRS 17 and local statutory requirements.
- Prepare and present actuarial reserve reports to senior management, auditors, and regulators.
- Work closely with Finance & Risk teams to align reserving assumptions with financial projections.
- Support external audits and regulatory filings, acting as the key actuarial contact for auditors and regulators.
- Actuarial Modeling & Methodology
- Oversee the development and validation of reserving models.
- Review and enhance assumptions (loss trends, inflation, claims development) based on emerging data.
- Implement IFRS 17/Best Estimate Liability (BEL) calculations and ensure proper disclosure.
- Conduct sensitivity testing and scenario analysis to assess reserve adequacy.
- Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Manage a team of actuarial analysts/reserving specialists, providing technical guidance and mentorship.
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Claims, and Finance to ensure alignment between pricing, reserving, and financial reporting.
- Present findings to the CFO, Appointed Actuary, and Board on reserve movements, risk exposure, and profitability.
- Drive process improvements in reserving workflows, data quality, and automation.
- Risk & Capital Management
- Support Hong Kong Risk Based Capital by providing reserve risk analysis.
- Assist in reinsurance optimization by evaluating recoverables and collateral requirements.
- Contribute to capital modeling and stress testing to assess financial resilience.
About You
You have deep technical expertise in insurance reserving, actuarial modeling, and financial reporting , along with strong leadership skills to guide the valuation team.
- Credentials: Fully qualified FIA, FSA, FIAA or equivalent actuarial designation.
- Experience:
- 12+ years in reserving/valuation within insurance (P&C, Life, or Health).
- Strong knowledge of IFRS 17, HKRBC, or other regulatory frameworks.
- Proficiency in reserving software (e.g., Prophet, AXIS).
- Prior leadership experience managing an actuarial team.
- Skills & Education:
- Deep technical expertise in loss reserving methods (Chain Ladder, Bornhuetter-Ferguson, etc.).
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to translate complex actuarial concepts for non-technical executives.
- Bachelor’s/Master’s in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.

**You are someone with:**
+ Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university

Savills has an international network of over 700 offices and associates across the Americas, UK, Continental Europe, Asia Pacific, Africa, and the Middle East. We are seeking a high-caliber individual for the following position:
Senior Manager / Associate Director / Senior Associate Director / Director – Property Valuation Responsibilities:- Lead our property valuation team and support upcoming expansion efforts.
- Perform property valuation services in accordance with standards such as RICS, HKIS, and IVS.
- Review valuation reports and oversee risk control measures.
- Coordinate with auditors and relevant intermediaries.
- Provide internal professional training.
- Propose suggestions to improve work efficiency and optimize processes.
- Maintain communication with the risk control officer at UK headquarters and periodically update valuation policies and procedures.
- Proficiency in preparing property valuation reports and conducting market feasibility studies.
- Expertise in property valuation and forecasting models.
- Deep understanding of the property market and policies in the PRC is preferred.
- Fluency in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English.
- Minimum of 8 years relevant work experience.
- MHKIS / MRICS or equivalent qualification.
- Strong team operation and management skills.
- Willingness to travel outside Hong Kong when needed.
- Experience with IPO valuation services and listing regulations is preferred.
- Proactive attitude towards business development is a plus.
- Experience in leading valuation firms is advantageous.

EY's Financial Services Office (“FSO”) is a unique, industry-focused business unit that provides a broad range of integrated services that leverage deep industry experience with strong functional capability and product knowledge. FSO practice provides integrated advisory services to financial institutions and other capital markets participants, including commercial banks, investment banks, broker-dealers, asset managers (traditional and alternative), insurance and energy trading companies, and the Corporate Treasury functions of leading Fortune 500 Companies. The service offerings provided by the FSO Advisory include: market, credit and operational risk management, regulatory advisory, quantitative advisory, structured finance transaction, actuarial advisory, technology enablement, risk and security, program advisory, and process & controls.
Within EY's FSO Advisory Practice, the Financial Services Risk Management (“FSRM”) group provides solutions that help FSO clients to identify, measure, manage and monitor the market, credit, operational, and regulatory risks associated with their trading, asset-liability management, capital management and other capital markets activities.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Assist Assurance team or client for financial instrument valuation (derivatives, securities, or cross asset class structures), model validation review, risk model review and any risk related advisory projects
- Participate in projects to help our clients on Quantitative Risk managements with a Market Risk focus
- Demonstrate strong technical capabilities, professional knowledge, and ability to quickly assimilate new knowledge. Stay abreast of new developments in valuation and risk management methodology, current market practices in risk-finance alignment and theirs corresponding regulatory requirements
- Consistently deliver quality client services within expected timeframes and on budget
- Monitor project progress, manage risk and ensure key stakeholders are kept informed
- lead a team to develop new approaches and ideas to fit client needs, by utilizing various quantitative and qualitative analysis, assessments and techniques
- Strong knowledge in financial instruments and market risk and assimilate new knowledge and stay abreast of new developments in advisory services capabilities, reserving and allowance, advanced analytics, regulatory expectations, and current business and industry trends relevant to our clients
- Strong business sense, analytical thinking, consultation and interpersonal skills with high commitment to delivery excellence
- Have functional knowledge related to some of the following: broad market risk management for banks and other financial institutions, derivatives valuation, applicability of models in the content of Fundamental Review of the Trading Book (FRTB) requirement, model development, model validation.
- Communicate and interpret deep technical concepts to both technical and non-technical client stakeholders
- Understand our clients’ needs and consistently deliver quality client services focusing on more complex, judgmental, and/or specialized issues
- Demonstrate ability to perform in a high-pressure environment
- Cultivate business development opportunities
- Master or Bachelor degree in Quantitative Finance, Financial Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or other numerical subjects from a reputable institution; an advanced degree and professional certification (e.g. FRM / CFA) will be a bonus
- 2 years+ experience within a consulting firm, a bank or other financial institution’s risk management, valuation control, quantitative analytics related business functions, preferable with experiences about pricing and modeling financial derivatives, structured notes and complex financial instruments, and/or capital management and associated regulatory requirements with Basel III and FRTB
- Fluent in English and Chinese (both written and verbal). Knowledge in Mandarin would be an advantage. Non-Chinese speaker will also be considered based on individual merits
- Previous programming experience in languages such as VBA, Python or MATLAB would be an advantage
- Experiences with vendor software (e.g. Bloomberg, Numerix, Refinitiv) will be a plus
- Ability to positively engage and develop relationships with multiple stakeholders
- Possess the desire and ability to work closely with quantitative and technology professionals on engagements
- Knowledge in hedge accounting under IAS 39/IFRS 9 is a plus
