We are expanding! Britannia has a great opportunity for an Underwriting Assistant to provide operational and technical support to Britannia’s Underwriting Team. This client-facing role will enable you to put your excellent communication skills to use, as you interact with colleagues across the Company, as well as with brokers and members. We are looking for a highly motivated and reliable individual with great work ethic and has sound understanding of financial concepts.
Key Responsibilities
The incumbent will support our Underwriter(s) in underwriting matters including:
- Preparation, processing and issuance of P&I insurance quotes, endorsements, certificates and policy documentation.
- Maintain accurate records in the underwriting IT systems and databases.
- Lead, determine and resolve problems by referring to policies, procedures and standards.
- Assess mail, correspondence, records and reports to choose processing matters.
- Compile data, reports and maintain files and logs.
- Coordinate with Underwriting areas to research and resolve to escalated Underwriting issues.
- Screen renewals and refer problem accounts to Underwriters.
- Communicate with customers to get information to complete screening and transactions.
- Extend technical underwriting support for team members.
- Handle customer and underwriter enquiries and offer status updates.
- Support renewal negotiations with existing Members and where appropriate;
- Facilitate the production of trading certificates (Blue Cards, ITOPF, SIGCo documents etc) on request, in a timely manner;
- Facilitate the production of Certificates of Entry, endorsements and underwriting debit and credit notes in a timely manner, as appropriate;
- Liaise with staff and clients of all levels of seniority, including regular interaction with underwriters and brokers.
- Ad hoc duties as required.
About You
Knowledge/Experience
- Minimum 1 year marine insurance experience in underwriting support capacity gained from within an international P&I Club, legal firm, ship owners or ships agents.
- Also open to candidates with brokering or insurance experience within the maritime industry.
- Degree holder or equivalent (preferably in a maritime-related subject).
Skills
- Proficient in English, Mandarin and Cantonese to liaise with members.
- Computer literate and familiar with all MS Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc).
- Intermediate level for Microsoft Excel (proficient in Vlookup and pivot tables)
- Knowledge of insurance software is desirable e.g., Electronic Document Management System or BPMS System equivalent.
- Organised and methodical – ability to organise and produce work of a high standard under time pressure.
- Communication – ability to quickly assimilate information, establish key issues and to express them effectively and succinctly in writing and verbally.
- Reliable – can be relied upon to produce work of a high standard within agreed deadlines.
- Customer focused – proactive and recognises the needs of external / internal customers and consistently delivers and meets promises made.

About the Role
Responsible for determining the benefits that can be offered and rates to be set for group health insurance applications
Responsibilities:
- Responsible to deliver professional underwriting services to assess the new business application / benefit upgrade / of group medical business.
- Ensure the smooth operations of Medical Underwriting Dept can be done.
- Price the group medical quotations in prudent and profitable manner.
- Assist to strike the balance in between the business top line and bottom line.
- Closely monitor the claim loss ratio of the whole group medical business portfolio and take appropriate action on premium pricing.
- Discuss with Policy Admin and Claim Dept to study the feasibility of following the existing terms & conditions of NB quotations.
- Keep harmony relationship with the intermediaries and S&D Division and closely monitor the changing environment of the employee benefits market in Hong Kong.
- Ensure the new business quotations can be delivered within our service commitment.
- Provide 2 ways communications to subordinates to solve the daily operation and staff problems
Requirements:
- Degree Holder with at least 5 years working experience in group medical pricing and individual medical underwriting
- Familiar with the group medical insurance operations
- With good leadership and planning & organization skills
- Able to work under great pressure, especially the peak session of group business
- Good written and spoken English and Chinese
- Good adaptability with changing environment
- Co-operative and good working attitude
- Strong problem-solving skills and good time management skills

About the Role
Responsible for determining the benefits that can be offered and rates to be set for group health insurance applications
Responsibilities:
- Responsible to deliver professional underwriting services to assess the new business application / benefit upgrade / of group medical business.
- Ensure the smooth operations of Medical Underwriting Dept can be done.
- Price the group medical quotations in prudent and profitable manner.
- Assist to strike the balance in between the business top line and bottom line.
- Closely monitor the claim loss ratio of the whole group medical business portfolio and take appropriate action on premium pricing.
- Discuss with Policy Admin and Claim Dept to study the feasibility of following the existing terms & conditions of NB quotations.
- Keep harmony relationship with the intermediaries and S&D Division and closely monitor the changing environment of the employee benefits market in Hong Kong.
- Ensure the new business quotations can be delivered within our service commitment.
- Provide 2 ways communications to subordinates to solve the daily operation and staff problems
Requirements:
- Degree Holder with at least 5 years working experience in group medical pricing and individual medical underwriting
- Familiar with the group medical insurance operations
- With good leadership and planning & organization skills
- Able to work under great pressure, especially the peak session of group business
- Good written and spoken English and Chinese
- Good adaptability with changing environment
- Co-operative and good working attitude
- Strong problem-solving skills and good time management skills

Position Responsibilities- Underwrite cases to ensure satisfactory services are delivered within the agreed turnaround time.
- Ensure underwriting standards comply with audit guidelines.
- Handle enquiries from distribution channels via phone and/or email.
- Support benchmarking of competitors’ practices, delivering recommendations to upgrade existing guidelines.
- Participate in product development.
- Conduct and arrange training for distribution channels.
- Participate in projects as required.
- Degree holder.
- 4 years or more of relevant experience, preferably from the life insurance industry or medical field.
- LOMA qualification; FLMI is preferred.
- Customer-oriented and attentive to details.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Able to work under stress and tight schedules.
- Proficient in spoken and written English and Chinese.
- PC literate in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Chinese word processing.
